I have talked to friends that have been displaced and laid off in the past couple of years. Many have not found work and said it has been extremely difficult. To many people competing for so few jobs and the amount of people out of work is much higher than the Govt is saying. To many under-unemployed and part-timers looking too. Pharma is not the market to look for a job. They say that age and location is what employers in our industry are looking for. Everything has to do with cost and with gas to reach over 4 dollars a gallon by April companies are not going to let employees drive 20 or 50 miles to their territories. That will probably be one of the many factors in who stays and goes. For people looking in the industry if you dont live in the territory and made to much money before forget about it. Recruiters will not even bother. Theres just to many of us and to little jobs. Now the banks and other industries are starting to lay off thousands again. More to compete with. If I do get the ax I would at least want to find something to hold me over and the banks would be just fine. Well forget that idea. I know people that made the last couple of cuts are mixed with some that are back-stabbers while others thought they made it due to their tenure and actually being good reps. Thats a joke. One manager told me that the cuts in the past were decided mostly on popularity and if you were well liked by other managers you were a shoe in. Typical Novartis. Lets face it the longer you worked for novartis the lazier people got and many I work with that had accrued time thought they were entitled. However, others I know were very compassionate to the ones that did not make it in the past lay offs and were genuine in their concerns. So not all are bad while others are true backstabbin assholes. So not everyone deserves Karma but for the assholes that were assholes let the Karma begin and for the ones that were true friends and supportive hopefully they will survive or do better somewhere else.

Some people burn bridges and then when they are in need (which will be soon!) -- they will scamper like rats in their lonely world! Let "those" people suffer alone. You just keep your head high and move on!
 












Now you know what the displaced reps went through last year! Doesn't feel good, does it? Truly sorry for all of the decent people out there. It's tough getting displaced.
 








Last year...this year....friends at NPC? None of your so called "friends" or POD mates were your friends. They talked behind your back as well as other's, they took credit for ther territory doing so well and trashed everyone else...OH! When it came time for reports, business plans, news, studying, DPM's, they were your best friend and complimented you to your Manager and District about a speaker program or luncheon.

THEY ARE ALL FAKE!!!!!!! SCREW THEM!!!!! They care as much about you as a baby cares about what color his fecal material is!!!!! Reach out? I did this time to other's let go and they were devasted. I was caught last year in the red tide and none of them called me...oh, one did. Now, everything is doom and gloom! "We just bought a $390,000 house with $$30,000 down and cannot make the house payments after October". Reality has finally set in for what we went through they didn't care. PHUCKEM!!!!!!!!

I was"displaced" last summer. Out of the twelve in my district, I heard from three. While it hurt at first, I later reasoned with myself that the others, just didn't know what to say, or they considered me an acquaintance not a friend. So this begs a definition of a friend I suppose. There are lots of different kinds of friends, I find the term overused. Maybe Jimmy Kimmell was right the night that he was making fun of people with thousands of Face Book friends. " I mean really, are all of those people your friends? My friends are the the ones that would come over and help pack up my house and help me move." That said, who are/were your real friends? Again, does sitting next to someone at a district dinner or at your district meeting constitute friendship? Hmmm!
 




To the above poster: with the amount of time we spend with these people (sometimes even more time is spent with them than with our own families) and that we all share our personal lives with them, then yes that would make them a friend (from work) and a courtesy call or text would have been nice. For examPle, if a co worker felt friendly enough to talk about very personal things (like her sex life), then I would think that would constitute some sort of friendship.

People at work aren't your friends, they're just friendly - They won't clean the vomit off your face before you go home.
 




A thought here to those of you displaced wondering why your coworkers are not contacting you. Have you realized they might not know how to reach you? Many of us only have your Novartis cell phone number and Novartis email address. I've even had job leads and had to jump through hoops trying to find contact information for some people let go. I've trie going out to LinkedIn to find them. But it would sure be easier if I knew you wanted some help and wanted to stay in touch! People are not generally heartless but have their own lives and issues to deal with. Give them some help in reaching out to you. Why not send them your resume and contact information and let them know any help is appreciated? You might be surprised how many would help if you give them a starting point.
