cronyism/nepotism is it true









It is the strangest thing ever, how can a major business survive this way? It is not who is the best fit, has the appropriate skill set, or the education/background. The way it works is- 'who is my friend or friend of a friend'. It is impacting the bottom line, however, no one seems to care.
 




Inappropriate hiring practices all around. When a job comes up, the hiring manager hand picks the employee to be moved into the job. THEN the job is posted and people apply for an all around waste of time. It gets the company around HR hiring violations.
 




Every company around does this for as far back as I can ever remember.

Havent you ever heard the expressions..."it isnt what you know, it's who you know"..."have friends in high places"..."got a Godfather/Godmother"...."got the right name, nationality or or other"...."got the Ivy ed (even if you were pushed through, that special student or are dense and dumb)"..."got a manger will push you".

Jeeze look at government too...connections get people pushed to top offices. Ever wonder how someone who has never had a job, run anything or had any real achievement gets into office....its called being the golden boy or girl who gets pushed ahead..a chosen and surely a connected one.

Sure it happens..... everywhere.....and since before we all were born.

companies have procedures for that. My friend at UPS meet his wife there. Once they were married she had to leave the job. They do not allow a husband and wife to work there even if in different departments. Another companies make all referrals blind. You don't know who referred the person. If it's a brother or sister then HR changes the last name on the resume. If it gets leaked out that resume is automatically disqualified.

It prevents what we have here.
 












Add to this list the favoritism prominently displayed by some managers. Have seen major contributors placed in downrated positions. They'll ignore their work, then ride their a** and mis-rate them....all the while praising the AK'ers who skim on everything except showing up when the managers are around!

Several problems with that comment, these aren't sales positions that require ANY SKILLS WHATSOEVER!!!!!!!!!!!! You could throw a high school senior into these positions and he or she would be successful. Or but wait, your telling me that you are different and a bring a technical background to your customers or how you are really valued in your organization? Give me a f***ing break.
I say continue to hire friends and family members because I would rather be around them when this ship sinks than to be around strangers.

I type extremely quick. I don’t feel the need to double check my work on CP. Similar to the way R&D works except my mistakes don’t kill people. I hope your education and experience will help in your new job. It shouldn’t be that hard. All you need to say is “would you like a drink with that”. Maybe just maybe with all that education and experience you can be put in charge of fries when your job goes to China. You can come out of the corner now. When you sit down, quietly say: “The educational system has done me wrong. I have not done a single thing here. I am ashamed.”

So here is the million dollar question hot shot. Tell me what makes Merck and its salesforce so superior? What "special training" did you receive to be so successful? (remember I made no mention that I work in R&D, I could actually work in sales and actually feel like sales is still a joke. There is nothing wrong with disliking the profession that one has chosen.) Tell me why these territories still bring in millions and millions of dollars when there are vacancies? You think the 15X15 guy is a joke? Perhaps you should realize it is the drugs and not the sales force that is driving revenues.
But continue to convince yourself that your success directly relates to your sales skill set. Continue to believe that farce.. It is a cruel world out there when you have to actually sell for a living.
