COVID Vaccine Mandate

Does anyone else feel like this is a gross power flex from Ricks to get on the Dem’s good side or something? Scientifically I have very little objection to the vaccine, but politically, this is a gross overreach that makes me question my employment with Lilly.

1) Young, healthy people are not dying of this, or even getting seriously ill at any significant rate

2) Older adults and people with comorbidities (who are at high risk of poor outcomes) have had access to the vaccine and should get it

3) Vaccines are extremely effective

I can imagine many future circumstances where your employer will be able to dictate your personal medical decisions where this will be cited as precedent.

Actually, older people are not dying this time around. Please get your facts straight. It’s a younger population in the hospitals now. Pediatric patients making up a large amount as well. They may not be dying but they are sick and many will have many symptoms that will last for a while.

Lilly can’t mandate the vaccine. They can ask, “require” that you take it. The vaccine was NOT a mandate/stipulation when you were employed. Let them try to fire someone for not taking the vaccine and see what happens. Lol

you’re so right. Old people are not dying this time around… because they got the vaccine.

it’s a younger population in the hospital now because…. Older people aren’t getting hospitalized resulting in lower average age of hospitalizations.

Do you not know how statistics work?

If you want children to be eligible for the vaccine, then push for that. For those with health complications that may be appropriate.

The risk of death for those unvaccinated under 30 is the same of all other age groups after vaccination.

Mortality (43 states, NYC, PR and GU reported)*
  • Among states reporting, children were 0.00%-0.26% of all COVID-19 deaths, and 7 states reported zero child deaths
  • In states reporting, 0.00%-0.03% of all child COVID-19 cases resulted in death

WRONG. EEOC announced months ago that employers have the right to do this I was waiting for this to happen.

You have a choice to make.

If you didn’t get the jab to protect those around you (kids and immunocompromised) then you shouldn’t be working in healthcare.

Good luck working somewhere else when corporate America is mandating it EVERYWHERE.

Companies are tired of paying full salary and benefits for modified work. Secondly, most companies are self-insured and are tired of paying for hospital stays and treatments that most likely could have been prevented with the vaccine. People have rights. True. The right to seek employment elsewhere.

Best of luck to you, too. Might also want to take that last-minute vacation before TSA starts checking vax status at airports. It's coming.

What happens when serious health conditions emerge from the vaccines? Will the Lilly board accept accountability?

As for the person who said this is for kids and immunocompromised. You are probably the same person who swore months ago that this virus didn't impact kids or who smokes because it is your right and second hand smoke isn't real.

Not an anti vaxer, but will Lilly take responsibility for employees who have an adverse reaction to the vax?
This is a sincere question. If an employee becomes sick, disabled or dies will they compensate the employee's family?

Sorry but we are hired as “at will employees” which simply means they can can you anytime they want for any reason.

Very interesting change in policy, especially on the day a new article hit the main stream news showing Pfizer vaccine efficacy dropped to 42% in July. Comparison of two highly-effective mRNA vaccines for COVID-19 during periods of Alpha and Delta variant prevalence

Given Lilly stopped distributing bamlanivimab due to lack of efficacy from variants, its a matter of time until the vaccines are ineffective.

For those who will be quick to blame the unvaccinated for variants, please hold on and do your research....

The vaccinated still allows individuals to carry, shed and transmit active virus. They do not prevent infection nor do they eliminate or cause the virus to be inactivated. A recent study out of Wisconsin showing vaccinated individuals carried as high of a viral load as unvaccinated counterparts. As long as vaccinated carry active virus, they will bread mutations--this has been demonstrated in viruses prior to COVID19, with data to demonstrate the vaccinate will produce more serious variants than unvaccinated.

For now, vaccines work, but this policy is a scary, precedent setting step. But hey, as Dave Ricks said, this is in the best interest of employee health and that is our #1 priority. Maybe future policies should focus on reducing risk factors for COVID, like policies that require reductions in BMI. If employee health is #1 priority, then lets really get to work on making this priority a reality!!

Finally, once everyone is vaccinated, the 'work from home' policy will be revised, not allowing flexibility provided today....For office based employees, your work from home days are limited.
