Carnage: RIF 2011

yes. and MK personally picked the people in PS to be RIF'ed. With input from TR of course.

what kind of people can do things like this. if they have talent they could get something good somewhere else but not one high paid person ever said to management you can't do this it's just not right. no, they go along as they have so much money to lose. they do things a human being shouldn't be able to do and do so without a tick of conscience. bad people can't make good medicines.

you hit that on the nail. bad people can't make good medicine. look at what's happening to d-mab that led up to this round of rif.

i wouldn't be surprised that they f' up with the next "blockbuster" and have to go through this again. KS will get another raise along with a yacht to help ferry the power sales team to 17 countries in one week.

When VP like TM gets glowing letter from SVP on his departure but valuable scientists are let go because of his (SK) ego, what else you expect in top to bottom of the management?

Sure is going to be interesting in Onc and Inflam with both their VPs "resigning". Perhaps they won't be replaced and SK will rule over all. That would certainly go somewhere towards satisfying his monstrous ego. Might just keep him going until he takes RP job.....

And so the quesion remains, what vision do SK and his superiors have for the tattered remains of research?

When SK visited AWA last week to impart his wisdom it was very clear that there is no vision. You would think that they'd have come up with a plan BEFORE laying off some of the best research folks!

What's wrong with this system? Why not be a bit respectful? Is there no law to stop such unfair cold way of RIF in big corporates.

Well this is free market economics. There is an excess of talent and therefore employers have the upper hand. In the mid 1990's the shoe was on the other foot and organizations with issues saw large numbers of employees exit for better options. Abbott for example saw an exodus of talent. I'm not citicizing the system, just pointing out how it works. As an individual, you must adapt and improve to thrive under changing circumstances.
