Can we get rid of the Quintiles contract now?

Lets cut to the chase here....It's like a husband bringing home a new very young live-in female and telling his wife, now honey don't worry - she's only here to help with the kids and a few other lite duties around the house. I've only got her on contract for two years, but once the kids require less share of voice, as kids tend to do as they grow older, then we can ask her to move out and go back to the way things were before. I'm sure you'll be okay with that right? Right Honey? Honey??

Sounds like fun. Then after 2 years the husband says, "sorry honey, I like the new version better, pack yo bags."

Don't you all realize that while we are well paid, this industry SUCKS! Management can treat you like crap, make you act like fools in front of your doctors, make you feel like you are a worthless piece of crap and then bring in newer, younger (and cheaper) models and get rid of you! Don't sit there and think that it can't happen to you. You won't always look the way you look now and you are getting more expensive to keep around everyday. I would never let my kids get into this profession!

So why do you still do it?

So why do you still do it?

I'll answer for her, assuming the poster was female. Why? Because who else will pay you this well to do so little with NO REAL PRESSURE? Answer....Nobody! Pharma always has been the easiest low pressure sales gig around. Products are constantly moving - no real selling involved, they will still pay you well even if you have DOGS in your bag. The commission part of pharma is phony because it ain't really sales, anybody can do it!! No Pressure!! Dream job!! You just have to be good at acting scared ;-)

No the hell anyone can do it.
My Q partner is dumb as shit!
He can't sell sneakers to a basketball team or ice in a dessert!
Bottom line he is 100% a joke!

Poster is right. Robotic job, just show up and make calls, leave samples where needed, give product reminder, done! The person that does this is doing more than most. There is NO selling in pharma, and if you think there is you've never had a real sales job. BTW, it does you no good to try and excel in pharma, they will lay your ass off regardless of what you do or how shiney you look, while your partner who works 2 days a week will get retained! TRUTH!!!

Dessert? Like a dessert drink? Or were you trying to spell desert, you know, like a hot, dry place with no water and lots of sand. Before calling people "dumb as shit" you should learn to spell simple words that a second grader could spell.

So why do you still do it?

I don't! I am out!! Just took a different job (gasp) outside of pharma and love it. If you have a good work ethic you can make just as much money doing something else. I am actually treated like the professional I am. I don't have a manager following me around all day trying to justify his/her own job. I am trusted to do my job. What a novel idea Takeda!

nearly peed my pants with this quote. so true of what we do. our managers want us to think they have power to do something when we are not at WIG. that is the nature of sales. up down down up down up up up down. have a bad month and out come the business plans, launch tracker, new spreadsheet, add some tap plans, blah blah blah.
bottom line, if you act scared to your manager about these things, you make them feel useful and powerful. they are just checking the box because their manager wants them to be scared and they need to try to justify their existence.
shit. I need some acting lessons again, my DM has cried wolf too many times this quarter it's hard to act scared anymore.
Don't they realize that I am the one that suffers the most when my numbers are down. I am motivated by realistic goals to make money not by fake fear tactics.

Yes, it's true! We're all actors and actresses. It's a shame that senior management feels the need to let these DM's & RSD's enact their worthless bullshit on us so they can look like busy important "successful leaders". Let us do our jobs! Get rid of DM's and RSD's!

It's amazing you can get any kind of job when you write like a first grader.
