BREAKING NEWS: ASTRAZENECA DECLARES BANKRUPTCY!

Sure its made up now, but that is how corporations finally scalp their shareholders of all remaining value and finally escape their pension promises. The bond holders get the remaining equity and the government pension guarantee fund is left responsible for the pensions at about 30 cents on the promised dollar. It could happen at some point. The airlines are mostly all still in business, but most of them have gone bankrupt several times for these very same reasons. So don't be so sure it will never happen. It's part of our capitalistic system, so it must be good, right?

No that's a moral cop out, similar to someone claiming that Jesus said, "Judge not, and you will not be judged" as justification for not using your God-given judgment. If it's part of the capitalistic system, it is not by definition true and you know it. You, I suspect, are anti-capitalist. If you had grown up in a country where there is no capitalism, you would yearn to escape to America. Those places put up barriers to keep the citizens from leaving. Here, in America, we have to put up fences to keep illegal aliens out.

It may happen, and if it does, odds are there will be a system in place to help out the people affected. The best way to handle the inevitability of corruption when money is involved, is to place your trust in no one other than the only Man who ever lived that will never disappoint us.

Are you trying to say that Jesus was a capitalist? Now there is some twisted logic. I can tell you that I do not have faith in the scions of industry to do the right thing for me. Jesus is not the chairman of the board or the CEO for any corporations, in case you hadn't noticed.

Free will and the freedom to choose how you live and pursue your existence.
Capitalism is having the freedom to pursue your dreams, and pursue your own economic interests as you see fit. It does come with the obligation to be ethical and moral. It fails when govt intervention picks winners and losers and erodes our ability to engage in commerce freely.

Capitalism fails even faster when corporations are free to rob the common man of all that he has properly earned through his labors and it isn't even against the law. More efficient government is actually the answer to that ill. You seem to despise all government, even when it is fulfilling its proper role, you are not even remotely a capitalist, you are some sort of a libertarian anarchist quasi-strange religious kook, aka a teabagger.

If you think it can't happen here then just ask the 118,000 GM pensioners who just learned that their pensions are being restructured to save GM $34 billion and this from a company where the government has a majority controlling interest. If they can get away with this then what are the odds that a foreign held company can't? If you can get out and take the lump sum then run don't walk to the exits.

I do think it can happen here, that was the whole point. The airlines showed the way many years ago. GM is now giving their white collar workers a dose of what their union workers got two years ago with a buyout, not bankruptcy. All contracts and pension obligations are dissolvable in corporate bankruptcy. The various stakeholders all get a real haircut. The lump sum is a safer way to go, although it does come with some sacrifice in the potential total payoff. If you invest well, you might make that loss back, after the funds are actually in your possession. Funds not yet in your possession are at risk through other mechanisms.

Ha ha! Thanks for the laugh, loon! I'm sure ol' JC would have just LOVED capitalism. Idiot.

Get your head out of your ass, Bible-thumping freak. And by the way, in case you haven't noticed, the USA isn't the utopia it once was.

My man Obama, he is the man to save the nation. All he needs is another trillion dollar stimulus so we can have a windmill on every block and a solar panel on every rooftop. Yep, that's the ticket.

So sorry, things have changed from the bubble days and now you don't get your $2,800 check every two weeks plus car 401-k insurance vacation etc. etc. for producing virtually nothing. You've got it tough, don't you? Those depression era losers just weren't as smart as you are. It's nothing to do with the boom or bust, you -- you are the reason you've succeeded. You'l win and catch fish in a mud puddle. Anyone who claims otherwise is a nut!

Very twisted reasoning. Jesus wasn't a capitalist, the London Underground is not a political movement, Aristotle ain't Belgian and the central tenant of Buddhism isn't every man for himself.
