Don’t blame leadership. They are doing their best. This has been coming for a long time. Roche killed the golden goose.
Yes, Roche has no vision and we knew it would kill the goose but where is leadership? Isn't that why they are hired? How about some accountability and not always blaming Roche when it's convenient? GNE has made stupid decisions for years regarding customer relations, management hiring, government affairs, and pushing excellent scientists and employees out the door in favor of no-talent, big pharma bureaucrats. Sadly, an excellent case for a graduate business school on how to run a success into the ground. RIP GNE - here's hoping the Phoenix can rise again.

Sad but true!

But that's why they get paid the Big Bucks. Time to stop surrounding themselves with worthless sycophants and find leaders who will problem solve - not get us in bigger messes to further their own careers. And...next time GNE lays people off it needs to look closely at the methods. Too many good people were let go because they spoke up and/or were real leaders. The kind of people GNE used to pursue but have now become threats to the insecure, fragile management egos. Art, please come back!!!

Ha ha! Roche was savvy enough to buy a controlling share of GNE in 1990. Is that "no vision"? Clearly it is hard to make up for the loses of Rutixan, Herceptin and Avastin; 18 billion dollars a year in business. The newer products either haven't panned out or are not up to speed with the revenue needed to sustain the spending Genentech is use to. Thus rightsizing and cost cutting are the only options. It's not pretty, but its reality.

Remember when Genentech was the leader in Bio Onc? Now the new leaders are Mr Merck and Mr Bristol. Genentech is an aging fighter with diminished skills fighting younger stronger fighters.

Lets look at this logically. Beyond the avastin , herceptin, rituxin death, Esbriet is dragging and never makes its numbers and will be generic in 2021, Xoliar facing 2 huge competitors so sales will definitely decline with 2 strong entrants with good efficacy. Tecentriq is third behind merck and bristol and will get the crumbs from those 2 products. Ocrevus is the only bright spot, and Hemlibra which will also face enormous competition. So now way Roche trades for over $200 per share. Roche will definitely acquire a company
