Anyone know anything about the announcement about Merck further consolidating footprint by closing additional sites Apparently it was announced at Rahway today. Surprised it's not here yet.

A entire series of major actions will be officially released on Monday February 29th. Significant downsizing and facilities closed. The actions will be the largest ever initiated in industry history.

So many if the sales groups are also looking at big cuts? It would make sense because many of the teams seem to have too many people and not enough products bringing in enough revenue. I work in CV sales and we will only have Zontivity after December 12. Obviously that is a big concern .

What should be a big concern to you is that you made a huge vocational error in choosing
pharmaceutical sales as your quasi-"career." You will constantly be stressing over the next layoff, and become increasingly worthless to the company as u age...

Get out now while u are still young enough to re-train in a real profession...

Dick ass at it again. Okay, lets see if there is a major announcement in 2 days that will be the "largest ever initiated in industry history."

Folks, this same turd face posts the same threats on several threads. I can't speak to the other groups but I can tell you the group that Im in is expecting no major lay-offs. Don't listen to this tea-bagger. He's just trying to make everyone as miserable as he is.

CV group will be fine. We're hiring people to backfill territories as we speak. Don't let dick ass confuse or discourage you. He likes to eat it.

I don't think this has to do specifically with sales force or reps, sounded more like research sites and the company trying to change direction towards bio rather than traditional medicines.

Maybe that's what they mean by this line in the SEC form 10-K Annual Report that came out yesterday:

"The global restructuring program (the Merger Restructuring Program) that was initiated in 2010 subsequent to the Merck and Schering-Plough Corporation (Schering-Plough) merger ...
Beginning January 1, 2016, the remaining restructuring actions under both plans, which primarily relate to ongoing facility rationalizations, will be accounted for in the aggregate prospectively. The Company expects to complete such actions by the end of 2017 and incur approximately $1.5 billion of additional pretax costs..."

Regardless, even if reps are not cut, repping here at Merck is no longer a career. My point is, this year the remaining talented reps will leave. This will leave the old, haggard, inept reps to promote the FEW remaining products we have. We are ripe to be purchased and are in a state of cultural
and financial chaos.

No more S3's
Bonus cuts (if you were an S3)
Salary caps
Retiree medical now down the shi##er
Pension stagnant and going to savings acct
Fear of unannounced cuts
No career progression options-lifer ctl's never leave.

i could not agree more with the last poster. If you are young rep do everything in your power to leave pharma or find a smaller device company or start up biotech firm where you can gain real skill sets. If you are an older rep with other options have the courage to move on. There is no future for most of the reps that are here. Even if you survived for a number of years eventually your number may be called. Just google pharma profiles at LinkedIn and you will see all of the people that have been let go and never return

But if we get rid of all our scientists, who would guard our great pipeline?.........
I'm sorry, the pipeline sucks so out they go. They will not be missed.

This is by far the best post of the year!

That may be true as I'm not in the know regarding research cut backs. I don't even know about PC, but I do know about CV and there will be no cuts. Not at this time anyway.

No it is not the best post of the year. The guy doesn't know what he's talking about. We're ripe to be purchases? Yeah, right. Who's got the money to buy Merck? We've got more cash around than probably any other big pharma company. Do your research boy. Typical sreggin. We do the buying, not the other way around. Think "Schering" stupid ass

I agree that Merck will need to acquire. Mainly because we currently have no pipeline. Statas quo is not sustainable.
