Being forced to room with someone at meetings is so degrading and dehumanizing

Why are you so afraid of us? Geez, the color BLACK(which Ive yet to see her in Amerikka where all African Americans have WHITE blood flowing throught their veins and no true BLACK color) does not mean you will die if you defend yourself. Geez. AFter all it's YOUR world. We're just a squirrel trying to get a nut silly rabbit.

Absolutely Agree with the OP!!!! I have roomed with so many 'older women' reps who SNORE like pigs!!! Because they are older ....you feel too bad waking them up...so you throw pillows at them or be really really loud going to the bathroom in hopes of waking them....it's awful...unfair and degrading to be put in that position! I also roomed with a black female at a national meeting who kept referring to me as "some white girl from the north'! to her friends and family on her cell phone discussions! I would have reported it, but I know I would have had a (white) snowball's chance in HELL of coming out of that one alive!

I was in a district several years ago that was 6 guys, 6 girls, so it was easy for the DM to pair people up for meetings. Except for the fact that 1 of the guys was openly gay, and several of the other guys in the district were major bible-thumping Jesus freaks. As a straight guy who wasn't openly religious (I'm agnostic, but it's none of the DM's business), my DM always put me in the room with the gay guy so the Falwell crowd wouldn't call HR (insert your jokes here, calling me a homosexual... don't worry, I'll wait...)

Clearly I could've made a stink about it, or made a false claim and sued the company and won a bunch of money. But the gay guy was probably the coolest guy in the district and he usually never stayed in the room (he had friends in every town we ever stayed in, or at least he made friends quickly...), and I didn't want to profit at his expense. One of these days, somethings going to happen, especially with Pfizer's gay-friendly hiring/work policies combined with the fact that there's still a lot of right wing extremists, eligious nuts and ex-military folks who really don't like GLBT folks.

Pfizer really ought to end this policy. They seem to be aware of legal liablity everywhere but in a HOTEL ROOM where you might have a valid legal argument against company policy.

Im out of the industry-but used to get so backed up at those meetings because of the rigorous schedule, rich food, lack of fiber and exercise, Id be stomach sick by day 3 and messed up for a month. Next time, take some psyllium husk pills and fiber pills and a bag of prunes. Find a good bathroom that quit in the SPA or somewhere outside of your room. Drink some warm water 3 times a day and it will help you with your energy levels. Im sincere about this post. the meetings are inhumane with the sun up to sun down expectations.

The big regional and national meetings were the epitome of torture. They'd serve breakfast from 6-7:30am and our DM wanted us at the meeting by 7:45 so "his team" would be on time. So with 2 people needing to shower and get ready, especially women with hair & makeup, should we get up at 4:30 or 5am to get some breakfast before the meeting? Just getting to the meals was a 20 minute walk from the elevators!

Then have meetings until 5pm and be told to meet in the lobby at 5:20 to leave for dinner, gee thanks, by the time we wait for the elevators to change, why bother? We'd eat a big rich meal, be out until 9 or 10 then have to do it all over the next day with no time to even run to the restroom during breaks due to the long lines.

One time I went to the restroom during the meeting because the lines were too long at the break and my DM later pulled me aside to ask me about it, he thought I was hung over and sick! What? I never overindulged at company events and how dare he assume that! He said it looked bad whatever the reason, good God!

Why do masters reps get their own rooms? Just because they're old?

Hell, no! (Well that's partly it.) Because as has been documented multiple times on this thread, it's because we snore like pigs, leave big skid marks in the toilet, etc., etc. Just saving you youngsters some stress and expensive counseling dealing with what you'll look like, sound like, etc. when your another 25-30 yrs down the road...Oh, you're welcome!

If sharing rooms is okay at the lowest common denominator level, then why isn't it okay for management and everyone else up the food chain? Sleeping with a total stranges is disgusting and I'm surprised Pfizer hasn't had a lawsuit about this one. Just thinking about it makes me sick.

While I don't like it either, you hqve to look aqt several options. Whoever said the hotel wouldn't let them pay for their own room - that's is a questionnable statement. In the past when I've wanted to get laid, I simply register without telling them who I work for. Then show up at the assigned room to shit, shower & shave. The rep who shacks with me just books it up to my room, then after we're done swapping spit, she goes back to her room.

It ain't rocket science folks and it's worth the dough to get some nice strange to take the 'edge' off married life.

Oh yeah, last time she split the room with me, I guess female reps need to get laid too.

I think it's a horrible policy as well, I once walked in the room and apperantly my "roomate" was having some sort of breakdown. She had smeared feces all over the walls and TV and was laying in the fetal position on the bed naked and covered in poo!!! Disgusting!!!

Try being me. I have a 14 inch schlong. It is so embarrassing for me to have to show off my advanced equipment when getting dressed in front of a dweeb bearing a little one-incher.

Got my own room once by default. Had a 60+ yo roomie with bad snoring. Next morning I left a box of Breath-Rite Nasal Strips on his pillow. He was so pissed he packed up and got his own room.

OP here. The last time I was in NY, I had to tell them my name to find out where to get my welcome packet and all that BS, and they immediately told me I had a roommate. I asked if there were any single rooms and they said no. I asked to speak to a manager because the bitch was starting to get rude and he was the one who told me that I had to take the assigned room and could NOT pay for my own even because I was on the Pfizer master room list. SO there you have it...there is a system in place where they dictate to you that you have to co-habitate with a complete stranger and you have no say in the matter. This is very unusual policy for a well established Fortune 50 Company, this non-negotiable and mandatory policy

I don't get what the liability/legal implications of having a roomate are. Are they worried that if my roomie called me a bloody faggot I'm going to have a nervous breakdown and sue the company?
