Being forced to room with someone at meetings is so degrading and dehumanizing

I think the DM, Regionals, and all home office people at the meeting should be placed in different rooms with reps to better develop teamwork through the whole organization. I am sure sales leadership will want to demonstrate that there is a great opportunity to brain storm and share success stories when you are stuck two to a room. I can see the synergy forming already!! Wo wants to be the first DM to step up and take up this initiative?

Management & home office personnel are like our US Congress/Senate/House of Rep's who subject the people to rules they themselves don't have to follow. Like gov't officials management subjects us to room mates when they don't have to deal with it. Why not save money & have DBM's room together. VP's and VP's should room together. So guys & gals in management I guess it doesn't sound like such a good idea when you have to do it so I would suggest you not subject us to it.

They should at least put people in the same age groups. I am sooo sick of "gramps" and the 5 AM wake up calls

Gramps here--let me assure you that sharing a room is just as despicable to me as it is to anyone else. The early wake-up call is necessary so that I can shower, etc. before your young, know-it-all, stay out all night, selfish self monopolizes the bathroom, uses all of the towels, drinks all of the coffee and makes me homicidal.

This has now spread to guest training assignments. Went to HQ and got paired off with some weird dude. That's definitely a first!

I'm assuming you are referring to guest training.
I refused to go because of the room mate issue.
If I'm such a valued rep with experiences valuable to new people, at least grant me some respect.
Two faced?

What is more degrading and dehumanizing:

rooming with others @ meetings

or

driving office to office thinking we are making impact?

catering their offices?

All this with a college education?

haaaa this is hilarious-and oh, so true!!!!!!! how about rooming with a college grad who incessantly asks you to rate her outfits as she gives you a fashion show of her attire for each meeting, asking which one, do I look fat, how about now? OMG!!!!!!! Then, have the teenager follow you everywhere bc her insecurities, then want to party and drink at night, then wake up up at 3 AM to someone jumping in YOUR bed getting frisky with ya?...Oh, i have some stories that can make you cringe!!!. It really needs to stop. I wonder how HR will handle this type of crap as this generation flows in and takes over the workplace with their amoral values and issues.

Absolutely Agree with the OP!!!! I have roomed with so many 'older women' reps who SNORE like pigs!!! Because they are older ....you feel too bad waking them up...so you throw pillows at them or be really really loud going to the bathroom in hopes of waking them....it's awful...unfair and degrading to be put in that position! I also roomed with a black female at a national meeting who kept referring to me as "some white girl from the north'! to her friends and family on her cell phone discussions! I would have reported it, but I know I would have had a (white) snowball's chance in HELL of coming out of that one alive!

"older women reps"? WTF you young brat don't stereotype people like that. I am over 50 and do not snore like a pig. You better watch your tong young lady, you are lucky to have a job. It sounds like you are some spoiled white gitl from the north. Get over yourself. You probably snore louder than anyone.

Lame comeback granny. No one wants to sleep with you anymore, so bugger off.

Duavee launch may or may be not coming up.....cant help but remember the last time I was in Vegas for the Toviaz launch and they paired me up with some big fat dude who had already clogged the toilet and was sweating through his shirt and sitting on the bed when I walked in my room upon arrival. Its been awhile since I have had to shack up with a stranger and I am absolutely dreading it again

I am looking for another job in pharma. I thought Pfizer was one of the few companies that didn't have roommates. Is this something new as a result of the Wyeth acquisition or has this always been in place?
HILARIOUS! Yes, by all means quit. Party like its 1999 when every pharma company was hiring pods of 5 reps in each territory. Like everyone else that was FFO or ATS out, you will go crawling to a pharma contract house begging for a $55,000 sales job doing EXACTLY what you do now: drop off samples and get those signatures.

You're an asshole. But, you probably hear that all the time.

Roommates is old pharma legacy tradition. Go back to post World War II pharma days of the Detail Man, all reps were men, most had previous military experience (use to bunking up), hotel rooms were scarce, so made sense to build up troop spirit and save money bunking up roomies.

Today, can't believe companies are willing to risk the HR, legal liability of putting complete strangers together in hotel room for days at a time..the HR horror stories must be a great read of Sex, Violence and Weirdness (all with company supplied booze)..one day something BAD will happen, make real news, then company will finally break down for 1 room/rep.

BOOO HOOOO!!!! SO SORRY THAT YOU HAVE TO ROOM UP WITH SOMEONE. WE WOULD HAVE PREFERRED CUTTING HEAD COUNT BY 50% SO YOU PRISSIES CAN HAVE YOUR OWN ROOMS. HR IS ON YOUR SORRY ARSE SIDE. BE HAPPY YOU HAVE A FREAKIN ROOM.

Most people who have been laid off from Pfizer would sleep on the ground in an alley next to your hotel in order to have their old job back. I know people who were good reps and never recovered financially or emotionally after being Pfired.

If I were to call them right now and tell them they could take your job but they would have to have roommates at meetings they would be ecstatic.

This thread goes a long ways towards showing they kept the wrong people. Goof freaking grief you people whine a lot and are spoiled

If nothing really bad has never happened before; it's doubtful it will happen now. A few snorers, women fighting over bathrooms and gay people issues is about the extent of the problems.

It's the caste system. And you are on the very bottom. Move up in the pecking order if you don't like the fringe benefits of your position. Or stfu and accept the fact that you are a bottom feeder.

You are showing your ignorance of the pharma industry in general, and our company specifically. I learned that the "HR issues" skyrocketed when we went to single rooms, around the time that I started. Bitch, whine, complain, and threaten all you want, you sissy-marys are either going to deal with this like professionals, or quit. Some of the people severed from here would give their family pet to have their old job back AND a roomie.

Your sense of entitlement shocks even a 15 year vet like me. Anyone on my team complains to me twice, and I will find a way to PIP them to the gills. There, I said it.
