Bad Managers at Ortho McNeil

Just have good managed care in your territory and then you and your boss will have a great relationship. Does JNJ still do Management Development Programs? Who in their right mind would ever want to be a pharm. manager?

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Its hard to work for OMN management. What happend to support and motivation? My manager has zero people skills. How can one develop when reporting to a person who doesn't understand people? So frustrating ----- to not be trusted to make decisions.

My manager is the same way and just stands in the background as I interact with customers. Literally doesn't say a word other than hello. Again, I find it so ironic that I am supposed to be learning from this person? Give me a break. I find that most managers can't even sell and the ones that I have known that got promoted from a sales postion all had mediocre sales at best - it just doesn't make any sense at all. I literally have had customers say "what is their deal?" and it is actually embarrasing.

I do have to say if they expect us to role play and readily critique us that Ortho McNeil should expect the managers to present the detail pieces in front of the group as an example. What fun would that be! It would actually be embarrasing. So if they can't sell, how can we respect them? After all, they are called a "SALES manager," so shouldn't they know how to sell? I also feel that a manager NEEDS to interact to some degree when they are out seeing customers - otherwise it really sends a poor message.

I am tired of Ortho McNeil because management tactics are based on fear and intimidation. Not all managers are like this, but it is becoming more of the norm here. I have been looking for a new job for quite some time and I hope to get out soon. How could anyone like this environment?

My Manager stays in the background... My Manager takes over calls. What do you want? DMs do it different in different situations. They can help you be observing (the discussing it with you), not demonstrating with YOUR docs. If you want the DM to interact, have that discussion in advance. If you want them to stay out, have that one as well. Improvement is a two way street.

Do you think my DM would be open to my discussing his taking a leave of absence?
No one wants him around including: reps in the district, reps in the region when we are together at meetings, other DM's and the RBD! He is a tool and should never have been put in this postion.

His name is Paul Revere, and he is a tramp.

That sounds like a good strategy. Let us know how that works.

The worst is that my dm's hair is looks like a hedgehog;
he must use bucket of gel to spike his hair porcupine style
sorry the grammer. i'm using my cellphone app to input this -- not so easy to do:

S.M. is rumored to be the epitome

of scary. No sales experience prior to becoming an insitutional DM and pressures his and other reps to no end with no answers for true selling situations. Way to go OMI, glad this selection has worked out for you - HR issues included and more to come. 1 step forward- 5 steps back. Very typical of this pharm. division.

Former Johnson & Johnson District Manager sentenced for fraud

NEW BRUNSWICK — George Mandas, a former sales manager for Johnson & Johnson, was sentenced Wednesday in federal court to nine months in prison on charges of mail fraud and income tax evasion.

Mandras, who was employed by Johnson & Johnson, pleaded guilty June 16, 2009 to submitting false invoices to the company between 2003 and 2006 for radio advertising services that had been purportedly provided by S.B.A., an advertising firm in Malibu, Ca.

Mandras, an Orlando, Fla. resident, knew that S.B.A. did not provide the services. Johnson and Johnson mailed checks to S.B.A. and then the owner of the firm would send checks to Mandras.

Mandras failed to report approximately $239,821 in taxable income from S.B.A. in 2005.

As part of the plea agreement, Mandras also agreed to pay Johnson and Johnson $885,059 in restitution.

You sound like the biggest brown-noser out there. Let me guess - you in the manager training program? You'll fit right in here. What other discribe are horrible managers that stand in the background because they don't have the skills required to sell. In addition, most physicians don't appreciate that - a manager that doesn't interact and is basically acting like a glorified babysitter - pathetic!

I would do anything to have a manager like this! The less I have to deal with them the better. Grow a set and realize you really do not need them and can do this job on your own, its really not that hard.
