AZ Crestor - my first day

Everyone on this contract appears to be facing the same challenges...bad lists etc.
i have gone to each one of my targets for my week one routing and it was very apparent that i am going to need alot more physicians. i am being very forthright with my manager and we as a district are keeping lists to provide for him to give to our regional. Amy made it very clear to do that so i do not think we will be cut short on this contract. i believe in january (next quarter) we will be provided more physicians. In the meantime i will see every single office on my list and do the best that i can and stay positive. Contract sales is the future of pharma and i would like to stay employed with publicis for years to come.

Great perspective and attitude. We all came from big pharma and know how precarious the current situation is with every company. Contract reps are the future of this industry, and this has been coming for quite a while. Crestor is much better than Lipitor and simvastatin. We have solid opportunities to increase market share. AZ account management/MHC has done a tremendous job with tier 2 status. Those of fortunate enough to be hired over many other experienced, talented displaced pharma reps should be extremely thankful.

Soooooooooooooooooooo happy to see mature converstion on this site again!
Nothing in life is perfect and its great to see conversation from people that appreciate their jobs and opportunities for what they are. We need more of this and less comments from people that think the world owes them and complain about not getting enough.

Hope the contract goes well, everyone works hard and you all have a good holiday season. Be thankful and HONEST... youll be amazed at what comes your way!

Crestor is not better than Lipitor per AZ recent trial!
I would be ashamed to make such a claim in this troubled economy where most patients can get Lipitor for $4 a month vs Crestor fpr $25-$35/ month and probably less in the coming months as generics come out/.

Saturn Trial by AZ
London, UK - In a rare randomized comparison of two competing statins in patients with documented coronary disease, treatment with rosuvastatin (Crestor, AstraZeneca) and with atorvastatin (Lipitor, Pfizer) had similar effects after two years on the trial's primary end point, percent atheroma volume (PAV) by intravascular ultrasound (IVUS), trial sponsor AstraZeneca said today in a limited announcement for investors [1].

The primary end point in the Study of Coronary Atheroma by Intravascular Ultrasound: Effect of Rosuvastatin Versus Atorvastatin (SATURN) targeted a prespecified >40 mm coronary segment. It started enrollment in 2008 and completed it last year, as reported by heartwire, and the company says "further data and analyses will be presented by the study's academic investigators at the American Heart Association [2011] Scientific Sessions on Tuesday, November 15."

As stated in a company press release, The PAV results "demonstrated a numerically greater reduction in favor of [rosuvastatin] vs atorvastatin but did not reach statistical significance."

For a secondary IVUS end point, change from baseline in total atheroma volume (TAV), rosuvastatin demonstrated a statistically significant reduction compared with atorvastatin.

The trial will also look at lipid and inflammation biomarkers.

The 1385 patients in the trial, which wasn't powered for clinical end points [2], were required to have a clinical indication for coronary angiography or at least one significant coronary lesion by angiography.

Our district is super cool, some real cool people, genuine. My manager is very cool, real and sincere, and you can tell he is honest and cares and will tell it like it really is. Our regional is great, and Amy is just a true pleasure. Lucky to have great people all around. I think Ocean 47 can be the best or one of the best grouping of sales professionals. Companies will be asking not just for Publicis, but for “that team you call Ocean 47”!!! Thank God for this opportunity

When Lipitor goes generic on Nov. 30th, Crestor's MS will drop like a rock over the next few months. The saturn trial also hurt Crestor, especially with managed care companies.

Crestor's Part D and Medicaid coverage will be hard hit. AZ "target lists" have always been a nightmare. AZ has chose to replace us with you guys. Enjoy this contract because it is very doubtful it will be renewed.

Sounds like this project is basically a Target list clean up.

How long do you think it will run it when AZ realizes that there is little business to be gained by reps attempting to call on these no see docs?

Where will your rpelacement doctors come from?

I doubt they are going to take docs away from the regular AZ salesforce.

This project sounds like you are laying the ground work for a future e detailing AZ project.

The entire project makes very little business sense to run this more than a couple of call cycles in order to make another target group for an e detailing and or a non personal promotion project.

You guys are the first line of attack of a very expendable army.

Like the Irish army was when they charged the Scotts in the Movie Braveheart. Once you are slaughtwered AZ will march right over your dead bodies.

My advice is to keep looking for another job while you are collecting a paycheck .

Good luck and Good Selling!

Keeping it real and mature, my call list: target list of doctors is awful. Full of true no sees or lunch only (huge offices w/ 25-40, my budget essentially makes that a no see office as well. I think this contract is for us to help clean up the routing, Crestor a great way to get us in and around the territory but once the clean up becomes more clear, I think we are gone. Keeping it real. I wish a regional or somebody in the home office would be honest with us as MOST of us have just come off unemployment for a rather lengthy time. Integrity and honesty goes a long way. Are you listening AZ? Are you listening Publicis?

just wondering...why wouldn't AZ be looking to season the contract reps with these target lists and then reduce their own force later handing off their better lists to you? You will be competing v a huge generic in 6 weeks--why pay 100K for reps when they can have contract in place that is flexible? Notice that most of the AZ reps with Crestor only carry Crestor!

Good point. I do think the AZ reps are growing a wee bit concerned and rightfully so. Here you now have a CSO with reps that have a ton of experience and are hungry to work and have accepted the six figure salary days are over especially when the CSO reps bring the same and more to the table for a lot less cost to AZ.

You may have a ton of experience, yet you were trained in a very weak manner on the product. Your presentations are limited and they don't want you having lengthy discussions. Just sample drop the product, that is what they want. Share of voice - ever heard of it?

SOV, yep I have heard of it. Sold in the statin market against all the meds, including ones that are now generic w/ pixie dust, haa haa and even sold against crestor. It doesn't matter how we were trained, I can sell as good if not better than most reps, 15 yrs experience will do that for you.

AZ reps will be down sized soon, welcome to the future, CSO

The contract with AZ will be gone in one year. Generic Lipitor will see to that. As a CSO, we are paid for a certain number of calls by AZ. Sales are secondary. This is nothing more than the perfect "check-the-box" job, if ever there was one. I could absolutely care less about Crestor's "sales". I only care that my metrics are good. We have a built -in excuse when sales start to fall.... generic Lipitor!!!

Actually, this contract is suppose to be more performance-based... That's why they insisted on reps with CV experience, preferably statin experience and why our IC is expected to be paid on 70% sales growth and only 30% call activity.

My advice to you is to start looking. AZ has us up and running in the territory so when they downsize big time we will pick up your doctors. I am speaking from 20 years with big pharma. AZ is not paying us to clean up the list, they are paying us to take over for the promotion of Crestor when Liptor goes generic!

True

I heard that most of the RDs and DMs came from Pfizer is that true? My old DM from Wyeth was interviewing for a PA DM job but I did not hear if he got it. He was to call me but I have not heard from him. Where did the PA DMs come from?

Keeping it real and honest! First, thankfull to have a chance to earn a living giving the drastic realites accross the industry. Second, the real news. It is call P&L. In order for AZ to keep the contract going each must generate revenue/Rx volume to cover fixed and non-fixed expenses: samples, bonus, budgets, gas, yo can add to the list. The question then is do we have enough potential in our targets list to cover beyond a year the revenue/volume of what we need. A good indicator is the NRx volume not TRx Volume or Share. AZ is banking on a number of calls to generate "X" market share above the collective base line of our targets lists. If our universe is not capable to sustain this growth factor; e-detailing is next since they can mantain these lists without a physical presence. Look for targets with better potential as a sign of AZ deciding to move forward with the contract.
