So these guys are launching a new drug for Lupus Nephritis and they've been posting a lot of jobs. I applied for a few in the state I live in.

Any intel on these guys? Anyone hear from a recruiter yet? Base salary range? IC?

you applied for a few? I'm sure that will lend to your credibility. As a hiring director, I will rarely reach out to the person that sends over their resume for multiple postings.
Base for the company will be strong. Culture should be good.

Applied for a few, as in, they were all the same metropolitan area, just multiple listings with different area names within that area. I was uncertain if they actually would have multiple territories within that geography or if they were just making sure city specific searches popped up on job boards like LinkedIn or Indeed.

That is disheartening to hear because some of us are qualified for multiple positions. With COVID layoffs ramping up and more jobs being lost, we are all just trying to survive and stay in the industry we love and are passionate about. I guess if this is the way this company feels then I will need to remove myself and look for a future somewhere else where I am appreciated for my skills.

sounds like an inexperienced Director. Who cares if a candidate applies for
More than one territory? Ruling someone out for something like that reveals a lack of experience and self confidence. Lots of nepotism at senior leadership and director level. Folks in Sr Leadership without any real Sr leadership experience. And already a vibe of arrogance beginning to surface. Good luck!

What makes you think this person is really a hiring director? Boy, are you naive!!!

OP here. I believe he’s a director as much as I believe people saying they’re HR Monitors in threads.

Still curious if anyone out there has been contacted by a recruiter or heard anything about this company.

They want strong rheum and/or nephr relationships. They were comfortable with $125k base. One of the big pharma companies is launching a competitor soon.

Anyone else find that companies only wanting reps with strong relationships are just lazy? Or unrealistic?

It mostly sucks for me as I’m trying to relocate to another state and everyone seems to want “establishes relationships”.

Hell YES! It’s ridiculous how short sighted and lazy the industry has become in this area. I’ve come in 2nd or 3rd several times for this reason lately. Those with experience also come with baggage and preconceived notions of where they can and CAN’T succeed. Hire the person who gets the job done wherever they’ve been! The ‘experienced’ rep in a particular disease state has a month or so head start then you’re stuck with them

Rheumatology is a highly competitive space with many difficult access accounts (esp. during covid19 as they treat immunocompromised patients) so relationships are more important now than ever

I agree that hiring someone for relationships is normally just dumb. That’s what lazy reps who can’t perform hang their hats on. And, yes, I have years of rheum experience. That being said, just about every company has put a greater weight on relationships now with the pandemic. I actually understand that, especially for a launch.
Also, 125k is a joke if they want anyone with rheum biologic experience. I was brought in at that with no experience in rheum or biologics 4 years ago in the Midwest at my current company!

I have interviewed with Aurinia and so far I think it is a great company. Everyone I have spoken to has been very cordial during the process. They can, and will do amazing with their new drug if they seek out good experience reps WITH relationships. Usually, under normal circumstances, I do not agree with hiring reps just based on relationships, but with us being in the midst of a pandemic I think it will be very important, especially since they are a startup. Big pharma has a ton a cash to take the risk on inexperienced reps, startups do not. They only get one shot at a successful drug launch!

You aren’t selling cars you idiot. And if you think you can steam roll into a nephrology office that is in the midst of a pandemic that severely damages the kidneys of otherwise healthy patients, well, you deserve to stay at Allergan. The primary call point will be neph’s. And guess what? If they do not know you you are not getting back.

one could say that about any specialty. However, companies often hide behind that and in the process sell themselves short by passing on highly talented folks who in many cases run circles around those with “relationships”. The same holds true for leaders who are placed into senior roles where they are in over their head but have friends who hire them In fact if you look at the research done on the most successful sales people in multiple industries including Pharma, the most successful reps are not overly concerned with being liked or worries about pushing the envelope with customers. It’s time for companies to wake up and base their hiring on more than simply relationships

You’ve either never sold in a specialty space or have spent your time selling rental cars or paycheck services. Just who do you think gets into offices these days? Someone who is well known, liked, and trusted or a brash “I refuse to back down” used car salesman? You won’t even get into the door during these times.

Said the dipshit retread rep who has hung in the same disease state his whole career. What are you selling us now Dipshit Retread? Talented sales people challenge themselves and figure out a way to provide solutions and crush IC plans. Others stay where they are comfortable and strive for and sometimes obtain mediocrity.
