Atlanta Interviews

Did not interview with hiring manager but was told that didn't matter, they would make decision

Wow. thats amazing...you were told you would be hired without even talking with the hiring manager (if there even is one). I agree with the previous posts that this seems strange and should be a flag to you for many reasons.

My advice: keep looking!

Actually, there is nothing nefarious going on here at all. Those who are doing the interviewing are simply making the hiring decision based on all the normal criteria - except perhaps the "personality fit" that the supervising DM might include in his or her final interview with a candidate. Anyone who has conducted interviews for a large company would likely tell you that the basics for determining if someone is the right person for the job are pretty standard and do no need to be conducted solely by the manager the person will report to.

I'm not suggesting you should believe everything people tell you and I'm not even suggesting that you believe what I tell you. Do your own research. Contact someone who actually has the answers. Reach out to HR if you are really concerned about the process and what's involved. It's not a conspiracy, or a ponzi scheme, or whatever it is that some are suggesting.

Whatever you do while interviewing, please maintain a very nice disposition. Niceness is what matters at Lilly, more than anything else. Take a lot of notes, document everything. This is a habit that will be essential to your career survival - and success - as you move forward in the process.

Thanks for your insight, however, i believe that the "personality fit" as you described, plays a very siginificant role in the success/lack of success of both the rep and the DM in this role both internally and externally and should be minimized. I was told that a good amount of DM's for this division have not even been identified/hired yet and will start with a team that they havent even met. Typical Lilly.

"Ponzi scheme" is a very intriguing way of looking at an organization. Look at Madoff's organization. Although "too good to be true" nobody questioned the integrity of the organization as long as they got the 10% payouts without fail. In a similar way, some large pharmaceutical firms manage to eek out nearly 7% dividends, even as their portfolios look worse than ever. As long as the dividends are paid out, the capitalization remains high enough to sustain more payouts. But like the proverbial house of cards, it won't take much to bring it down. Count your blessings, ever day.

Any of you Atlanta people who got your background email last week hear back yet? Or any offers?

President Barack Obama says the U.S. must invest in research and development, science, and especially education -- or risk seeing the technological breakthroughs of the future happen in some other country.

I interviewed with Kelley Wright in Atl 2-3 weeks ago. She said this would move fast - start date to be 14Feb2011. She asked me to copy my bragbook and send to her. She gave me her bus card. She said to enter the xpenses on the expense report. She also said she would like me to "phone screen" with her dm side kick who resides in Fl. That did occur a few days later. When I returned home from the f to f interview, I sent Kelley an email asking if she would like me to send the brag book to another address besides corp in Indy. When she gave me her bus card I never checked what address(s) might be on the card. Never received a response as to what address to send the brag book however did receive a call from the firm in Findley OH that screens and processes expense reports telling me that the costs incurred to copy my brag book were non-reimburseable. She also, along the way left me a voicemail asking for 2 names/numbers to call and leave on her voicemail. Of course I did that. ( I knew I should not have given her Chuck Manson's number...just kidding. The two references were a lifelong friend graduate of the USMA and a friend I started with in the industry and now a DM in the industry. Did I mention I was a President's Club winner twice at BI and with 15 yrs experience in pharma. And yes they did the background check. I know there is nothing there to hang a twig on. Do you think I've heard anything else from Lilly??? The wedgie feels pretty good!!!

nice to know that you might be worthy of Lilly. However, disallowing your bragbook charges mean that should be a memorable event for you what to expect, but worse is what to come. I think you should accept the offer if given. Atleast you will be happy for a while. are you >40 or <36. just curious.
