Nope...I call bullshit. That is NOT the only recipe for success. You do NOT have to have CNS experience or even experience in the Schizophrenia market to succeed. Will it help? Sure it will. but again. You can teach a salesperson the science and product info. You can't however teach a salesperson how to be a good salesperson. You either got it or you don't. There are so many intricacies and variables in any market place that good salespeople either get or they don't. Like I said, I never had ANY hospital or injectable experience before I came to my current company, but I've won two president's club trips and numerous awards and been highly successful. Been with my current company for over 10 years. If I truly sucked, I'm sure they would have let me go by now. The true test to me is autonomy. Did you make all the great numbers yourself or did you have a cluster mate help? To me, take a solo rep put him/her in a territory by themselves for a while and THEN see how well or how bad they perform. Many schmucks who claim to be "so successful" really didn't do shit. They had other colleagues help them out while they took full credit. Small biotech is "big boys" selling and require someone who can get the job done solo and sometimes without much help. Many cannot function in this realm. That is what I like about small biotech. You are responsible both good and bad for YOUR territory.
