Allergan Aesthetics is a hot mess

old school business model no longer works for Allergan
A lot of products now in a field of nice to have vs need to have aesthetics. Growth will be tough in challenging economy unless things drastically change. Market share will continue to drop across all products. Still a great deal of revenue generated but won’t be solid double digit growth anymore. Just my 2 cents!

Agree with you that there is still money to be made but growth will be slower than in the past. Allergan will lose share as cheaper products are injected more frequently.

I also think that cheaper and poor quality products along with the unqualified injectors using the cheap stuff will continue to damage the overall reputation of aesthetics and hurting the whole industry.

Unqualified injectors is definitely an issue as are shady commercial practices like tons of free goods. Add new players and products to make it a really challenging environment. Probably not what AbbVie anticipated…

Anyone dare to speculate what AbbVie will do with the aesthetic business?
They are special and their fairy godmother told them they were so smart and that they would be safe forever from the dreaded LC curse in their magic ring fence.

It’s been almost 5 years and the years have not been stellar. It’s obvious. Abbvie will finally fully integrate and it will take its place as a small TA.

Carrie Strom may not survive this. She was lucky enough for a long time.

Allergan’s arrogance combined with a lack of innovation in an increasingly competitive space is bringing the aesthetics business down. Add big pharma to the mix and it’s the perfect storm!

And competition that dumped product on the market at cheap price and allowing anyone who calls themselves a injector to fill people’s face to the point they look like they are exploding

Yes, true. She inherited a golden goose but managed to slowly kill it as competitors ramped up. It takes special skills to navigate big pharma, which she simply does not have.
I think the problem is that she had to spend too much time navigating big pharma, did not understand/see how other companies (Galderma rings a bell?) were eating away at Allergan’s share and all these cheap fillers flooding the market. Woke up a bit too late. Combine this with Allergan’s old guard arrogance and we are in this hot mess.

Excellent comment. That’s exactly it!

Agree that was an excellent comment. I would add we lost our way in innovation which solidified our leadership. But at AbbVie the device side of the business ran R&D with her support. This was a misstep. A filler or breast implant is not a drug and follows a very different R&D path. The truly valuable innovation historically came from the pharmaceutical side of the house and those people are long gone.

There has been no innovation in years. In an increasingly competitive landscape this will be the downfall of our aesthetics business. We’ve lost the edge.

i also think Allergan tried to remain ethical and not play at the same level promoting overfilled standardized faces as revance and prollenium. And galderma was agressive…. And Carrie focused on promoting her friends.

Galderma was and still is aggressive while Carrie is losing the game. It won’t be long until she is pushed out of Abbvie.
