Merck & Co. said last week it’s still looking at whether its animal-health and consumer businesses, as well as its drug projects, might be divested or partnered outside the company. Pfizer Inc. in June completed the spinoff of its Zoetis Inc. veterinary unit.

Merck & Co. (MRK), the second-biggest U.S. drugmaker, may be coming around to the idea of separating its businesses after the breakup of larger rival Pfizer Inc. (PFE) boosted shareholder value by $50 billion.

Merck Chairman and Chief Executive Officer Ken Frazier said last week that he’s evaluating whether the animal-health unit and consumer products would be better off outside the $134 billion company. Slimming down to focus on human medicines would follow in the footsteps of Pfizer, which spun off its animal-health unit and sold its baby formula business. Novartis (NOVN) AG also has identified its animal-health division as a top candidate to sell, Bloomberg News reported yesterday.

I understood that Chris Pappas was told he was let go because his position was eliminated. We now have Dr. Heany as Director of tech Services. So Dr. Pappas was terminated . But Why? My guess. He reported the actual number of Acitivyl complaints and AE reports from our customers and the pet owners. Management wanted an Activyl advocate to lead tech services and not hear the facts about Activyl. They could find a position for Robin Mease but not Dr. Pappas? Unbelievable.

Your speculation of why they decided to oust him is very interesting. And disturbing. And possible. This is happening throughout Merck - not just in this singular instance. It is something everyone should be aware of.

To your other point, they even "are finding a position" for AS. Given his universal reputation vs. that of CP (not even in the same ballpark) one would have to question why they fire CP outright and do cartwheels to find a home for AS.

As far as Andy is concerned it is obvious that outside political activities can create job security. It certainly isn't talent or job performance that is keeping him employed. I hear that Robin will also become the NAM for Patterson as well as her corporate account responsibility. My guess is that EJ will be the Eastern zone manager. Good luck to the Robin hired RM's if that were to be the case.I know that 4 RM's from Maine through North and South Carolina could be in trouble.

Thanks but if I were brilliant I would have already been offered the positions I have applied for from competitive organizations. One HR person told me that she has received "a lot" of applications from MAH employees. What a surprise?

Will she give a Patterson reps Janet,'s number if they have a question? She does not know our line and is totally blank when it comes to large animal products. No worries. just follow her Action Selling steps and she will be fine. Send her a life line pendant. She has fallen and can't get up. Fire Dr. P and keep Humpty Robin? Possibly her next job will be with Jeff Guidos and Dan Birch at Vetstreet.

Can't disagree with you but you must admit she some how is a survivor. I don't get it. Every position she has held in animal health she has screwed up. Distributors think she is a joke and actually laugh after she does a presentation. Despite all that she makes a lot more money then you or me. Possibly if we increase our level of incompetence we can make more money. It has worked for Robin , Andy and Francine.
