A/C Turnover

Truth ! Only city that progressive companies view as acceptable in TX is no surprise, Austin . Oil companies aside TX is in the dark ages . Look around , pharma is based on either coast for a reason . No IVY league schools or Stanfords in TX . Having a home office there is a huge mistake in this industry , just ask industry insiders or our customer base .

Google , Apple , Amazon , Ebay or a million others aren't setting up shop in DFW for a reason people . Texas is so out of touch with modern America, DFW with it's strip malls , spending addictions and chain restaurants isn't the place . Management should be based in East / West Coast cities for the energy and ideas they advance . Not to mention the talent pool found right outside your door , how many good and very capable Galderma employees have turned down an opportunity because they didn't want to move to TX ?

Big picture , adding more home office people in TX will kill this company long term , it this marketplace the nibble will succeed . Being in TX keeps the thinking feeble and weak , the environment is not full of inspired people .

Ft worth , those with college degree 25% , Seattle 56 % , Boston 45 % , San Fran 49 % . That's your proof .

Good thing you are not compensated for your "big picture" thoughts. Your analysis is completely out of touch with reality.

No I am pretty sure most of the real pharma companies are located in NJ, California and Boston. Our talent selection pool is limited. If it is not the area, then you tell me what the reason is for our lack of talent and innovation.

The vast majority of people working in the office are not even from TX, and have very successful track records with big pharma and med device. Many that are from TX could easily work anywhere, and many have worked at multiple big name companies. Those with experience tend to prefer smaller companies rather than bloated, bureaucracy laden, organizations. Your inaccurate description of the state, the employees, and insinuating they lack education screams of jealousy and defeat. Move on and chase your dream rather than criticize people and places you don't truly understand. Why would someone so bitter stay and complain when you act as if you live in the hot bed of talent? Shouldn't companies be beating down your door to run their commercial operations, finance, sales, marketing, general management, etc.? Or, maybe you are just a follower. It is easy to criticize, and difficult to step up and take charge. i prefer to look at the positives in my job and in my colleagues. I have wonderful customers that love our products and it is a great niche market that we get to be part of every day.

Don't mess with Texas ? I don't care if it's business friendly , I don't need to stick my head in a sewer to know it stinks . Thanks for your long and boring reply . It's not about DFW , it's about a way of thinking from what I read on here. It's a easy solution to say like it or leave , that's what FOX news is based on . Weapons of mass destruction in Iraq ? C'mon man use your brain . Change isn't scary it is good .

O and I'm not a member of the NRA either , sadly

I as well have spent some time in DFW and agree the people are very nice and the area is fine. I think the argument, which you helped reinforce by providing us with all the top companies in TX, is that within a two hundred mile radius you named just 1 top 50 pharma company and that is Alcon which is really Novartis and all their decisions are made in NJ. The point is that if you looked at all the pharma companies between DC and Boston, you will see that 32 of the top 50 have thier HQ in that area. Nothing against TX as it is a fine state, not the pharma capital of the world and you are correct that i will stay in the field. Best of luck.

Nicely said . Texas is a fine place ( DFW in fact ) however it's not a great place . Now I understand TX pride , state pride and all that , but that's not the issue . The issue is attracting top talent and then surrounding them in a go forward progressive environment , like San Jose / Valley . Those places are humming with ideas , the air is filled with expectation . No so much DFW . I don't see DFW on anyone's bucket list or expedias top ten travel destinations .

Love it hate it , it is built around extensive clogged freeways , strip malls and chain food eateries . Nothing to claim except the big D . WOW how amazing . No music like NO , no history like Boston , no beaches like LA , no food like SF , shall I continue ?

Please don't lay out a string of pharma in TX to push your point , if I swung the same miles radius around Pittsburgh I'd most likely come up with more ! Ditto Denver , Ditto Chicago . None of those are coastal cities . You can make a case Seattle are a better team than New England but they didn't win the Super Bowl . Again no RIT in TX , maybe ITT Tech , no Ivy league just the Bush family and their league .

Bottom line , it really is a huge negative to try and grow a pharma company out of DFW , especially with such a focus by managers / VPs whatever at the home office . Bad move uncle G .

Bottom line , it really is a huge negative to try and grow a pharma company out of DFW , especially with such a focus by managers / VPs whatever at the home office on the local market which in NO WAY represents the greater pharma market USA . TX has great RX coverage ( best in nation ) and people making 35 k willing to splash on every A/C drug we carry . Not a good cross section of total market and leads to TX market decisions that don't translate well across state lines .

Some people really have way too much time on their hands. ( see above)Texas is a fine state for business - However, the posts about our inept leadership from Alcon are spot on.

I have been with Galderma for over a year in the field and can tell you that our greatest weekness is lack of corporate talent. No new ideas, no new products, same old story. Without change we will never succeed.

Not the original direction of the OP but I love the discussion . I can see both sides , I'm swaying towards what the last poster wrote . Thoughtful stuff people . Not the regular name calling , people bashing or downright pathetic garbage some choose to post on here .

Saw the stats about college educated cities and the idea that having top level universities in your back yard are important to building a first class organization . I'm not 100% sold on that notion , but play out if you will a talented employee is asked to relow to DFW for a promotion , whatever .

If you have kids you want them in the best schools possible , does DFW offer that . Not really , state and city rated way below national averages for public education , so you gotta go private , at what cost ? There goes my cost of living savings with cheaper housing . As a professional would I like to be surrounded by rich culture , like minded individuals ? Yes I would . Is that more likely in Ft Worth or Boston or other cities mentioned on this post ? Most likely the later . If I relowed would I like to have Yale or Cal Tech or Penn up the street over the University of Nth Texas ? YES of course .

That's just a few thoughts , I'm not calling your baby ugly DFW , I like where I live for my own reasons but that's not the central point is it . It's , is that local the best possible place to build , develop and grow this enterprise so it's a player in this rapidly changing landscape . I believe many of our competitors and future competitors see it to their advantage that Galderma is based in Texas . Yes anyone can jump on a plane but each geography has it's own culture , you have to live there right . Is DFW known country wide as cutting edge city ? Not there yet ? Not there ever ?

Well stated and that has been the point of this debate, Galderma cannot operate in a vacuum and survive in this ever changing market place. We need to attract top talent and that is becoming ever more difficult in this space. Unfortunately or not, most of the talent for the pharma industry does not reside in Texas, no matter what benefits the state offers to those who already live there, it is not a draw for pharma people. Just a fact.

The discussion between states is pointless. Let's discuss how another sales meeting just occured and in between motivational speakers and karoke at a horrible restaurant nothing of substance was provided. They once again pull you out of the field to discuss a product that hasn't even been approved by the FDA. Then, instead of providing innovative sales tools and cross bundling maketing programs, they waste our time with useless garbage. This is why this company is going nowhere. Not because they are located in Texas.

that's because they have always have done it that way , that's the point , change means a break up of good ole boy network that is delivering that junk over & over . trust me it's like ground hog day every meeting a carbon copy of the one before .

btw , what karoke song did u sing ? i've been a fan of elton johns goodbye yellow brick road myself .

How about taking sales people out of the field and discussing ways to sell products that will be effective and innovative. How about discussing the real world objections and challenges that the sales force encounter in the field and how to succeed. Specific innovative guidance. Not breaking wood, or singing songs. The company is so inefficient and poorly run. Really poor.
