Any thoughts on what our role will look like next year? Tons of devices and a handful of accounts, major lay offs and doing more with less, territory teams?
Which really means leaner and more profit for our share holders, which I am one of . Lets see last count was about 8000 combined between 401k and individual account . So thats a great thing .
Now as the sales rep it stinks, for most , for me does not matter because I am a lifer not going anywhere ( Executive Rep Here) Live below my means . But what this really means for our industry is very apparent . High Salary , low commission , contract driven ,(for NOW) so we really only need reps to admin contracts . With in 5 years ( which is when I will be retiring, the majority of the sales force will be below 30 in age making low salary with maybe quarterly bonus paid by MBO . This is clarity to all that we are now a market driven vs sales driven company . It has been a great ride and has provided a great lifestyle .. So embrace the change shut up , and keep moving on because , neither your new team nor your manager can stop the change .
Whats really sad is that now the politics will be even worse because people will be focused on who is not working and contributing so more he said she said backstabbing etc.
Executive rep here too. unfortunately i've got 15 more years before I retire, but its been a good ride so far. I get paid well and as long as this company wants to keep giving me 6 figures to go to work, I'll keep giving them an honest days work. Sales vs Market? Its sad to see the big bonuses go, but how many positions are out there that offer $110k salary, great benefits, a pension, and a nice Fusion? Especially in this market? If you live on Salary and consider bonus (just that) a bonus, it really doesn't hurt when it goes away. I'm sticking it out because every year that passes by, I watch my pension payout get closer and closer to a number I can live on.
$110k a year and you are happy. If you are under 30 years of age, ok I get it. If not, you're just a panzy who is afraid to put in any effort to make a better life for your family. I was making $110 in my late 20's in device. Now I'm making $250K+ and I am 32 years old. Before you say anything I have already been hit with reduced (cap) procing in the hospitals. So stop being a wimp and get off your ass and actually sell something. I laugh at people like you who are content with $110k bc they don't want to give up their JNJ Amex card bc that would mean no more free starbucks coffee and panera lunchs.
Wow! The EWHU managers are dropping like flies! The smart ones are getting out now. The others can keep drinking their Kool Aid and stay in denial until they wait for that phone to ring..... time to turn in your keys!!! Realistically, 80% of the managers will be from EES and EP. 20% will be from EWHU.
Good luck!!
You re a fucking idiot. EWHU is not even 10% of the combined ees and ethicon business so if we get 20% of spots thats pretty fucking good. Go read your shitty mba books fucker. Whats your fucking point u stupid fuck. I am actually impressed you were able to pass the test question of this forum.
Hey endo boy tell us the last conversion you had . LOL come on son you don't even have your big boy pants on.
You are correct in description of suture
If you are interviewing against any Ethicon rep, you stand to have a pretty good shot. Most of them are washed up. They are box-checkers who don't work much. Then again, that's pharma in general, so realize what you are getting into. Ethicon "device" is not viewed as a device job by anyone outside of Ethicon. You don't go into surgery more than 1-2 times a month, and when you do, the docs and RN's want you out of there. Zero value, zero purpose.
1-2 times per month? I'm in the OR ALL the time! Starting to hate it. Covidien in my territory is there all the time too. What region are you in?? hahahah
I am a suture rep and I will tell you from first hand experience that it is a tough job. This is my 7th year and the past two have been difficult. I don't know about the rest of you but I'm in the OR every day and in cases-hernias, CABG, hip and knees. We don't get paid on suture as much as you think we do- yes we get paid to convert to antibacterial but that's all and it takes a year or so to make that sale. I'm sick and tired of endo reps thinking we don't do anything everyday. Unlike you guys, we have 20 accounts per rep not 5. Feed someone else your bs because people work hard here and get paid well. I made a little less than 70 for Q1 and we all know first quarter is slow.
