: Medical technology firm ConvaTec to buy 180 Medical Holdings for $321 mn

Medical technology firm ConvaTec yesterday agreed to buy catheters and urologic medical products maker 180 Medical Holdings Inc, for $321 million.

Privately-held 180 Medical is one of America's fastest growing "Nationally Accredited" providers of sterile use catheters, urologic and disposable medical supplies.

The Oklahoma City-based company makes products for patients with chronic medical diagnoses such as urinary incontinence, spinal cord injuries, multiple sclerosis, transverse myelitis, spina bifida, and many other urologic conditions that require catheterization.

ConvaTec is owned by private equity firms Nordic Capital and Avista Capital Partners, who had acquired the New Jersey-based company in 2008 from Bristol-Myers Squibb Co.

The company operates in four key business units - ostomy care, wound therapeutics, continence and critical care, and infusion devices.

ConvaTec, which was created as a division of E.R. Squibb & Sons, Inc, has more than 8,000 employees in over 100 countries.

ConvaTec said that the transaction is subject to regulatory approval and customary closing conditions, and is expected to close late third quarter 2012.

Current rep here...most reps make well over $100k a year, plus great benefits and huge car allowance. It generally takes over a year to start making over 100K though, then the sky is the limit..most top out around 120-150K though

Great place to work, I wouldn't leave for a better paying job. I have been here right at 2 yrs.

realistically once you calculate all the miles you are driving and the costs for maintenance it is a wash. Recently it has become difficult to close patients that will generate a commission. so my checks would are not getting bigger

Hmm...I really doubt most reps are making "well over a 100k". You wouldn't leave for a better paying job?

Just heard from a rep that 180 will be offering their own inhouse convatec catheter as a substitute to patients as opposed to the major marketed brands, can anyone confirm this? Anyone have price points?

Yes...I would not leave for a better paying job. The company has grown so much since I have been here and the next few years should be an exciting time. The money is great (unless you of course you don't do well)

I see people complaing about a low base salary, well guess what pharma boys, this is devices. Most companies don't even offer a base, here is a ok base is the opportunity to triple that in commission if you are worth a crap
