There is a good thread on the boards that may be of interest to older pharma reps seeking a new job. The thread discusses the various difficulties older reps face when seeking new jobs and some strategies.
An excerpt from one post,
"Could any rep be successful without great interpersonal skills, ability to gain trust, develop relationships, and provide valuable service to the HCPs and staff? Analyze business data, gain first-hand knowledge of the key players and use it to create strategies/ tactics to impact growth? Work productively daily without needing to be told what to do or even how to do it, except in the most baffling of circumstances- alone or in perhaps several different teams week after week? Hit targets while being fully compliant, even under corporate integrity agreement? Build bridges with nonprofit orgs to benefit the patient's community? I'll stop there as I think the point is clear: We who have been good at this work for decades already STILL have the right skills for this work."
It can be difficult to find a new job for reps in their 50's. Too often the seasoned rep's experienced is discounted in favor of youth. Check this thread out to learn more are the issues and some ways of overcoming them.
