At this point, Rob Califf is doing whatever he can to nab votes from Republicans or even Democrats.
While members of both parties historically fall in line when it comes to nominations from a president of their own party, Democrats are holding out on yes votes for Califf to be the next FDA commissioner. Not only because of past grudges over the agency’s opioid approvals (see statements from Sens. Joe Manchin and Ed Markey), but also because of his web of financial ties to industry, mostly amassed following his first stint as FDA commissioner.
