Moderna CEO's Salary Spikes while the Median Employee's Falls

Last year, Moderna's SpikeVax COVID-19 vaccine generated $18.5 billion for the Cambridge, Mass.-based company. With that kind of strong revenue stream from one approved product, it’s no wonder that Chief Executive Officer Stéphane Bancel’s salary spiked as well.

This morning, the Boston Business Journal reported that Bancel’s salary rose 41% to $18.2 million in 2021, citing a filing with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission. While Bancel reaped the rewards of SpikeVax’s success, the Journal noted that annual compensation for Moderna’s median employee plunged 16%.
