It is not just Merck that is bad folks…Sure, the laptop computer was pretty much the death knell
of the pharma rep job, but now the analytics thing has caught on everywhere, so it doesn't matter where you go, they will track you with GPS like an animal, and analyze your ever move like a shrink gone awry…

You might as well keep the deli job and get paid handsomely for it…there is no industry out there that offers the salary and benefit packages that pharma does, for the work required…ride the thing out all the way into the beach if you can…that is, if your CTL doesn't have other plans...

Working for corporate America is a continuous nightmare. One reason is the technology that was not around many years ago. One must always be on and it is 24/7. These companies want to get every minute from you plus more. When you finally leave or retire you will look at the entire situation very differently from the frazzled grind that you engage in on a daily level. Bank your bucks for financial independence. There is nothing like it.

love this post…this person definitely gets it…I left the whole rat race/Corporate America thing to preserve my health (what's left of it) and my sanity…The whole metrics/analytics thing that companies are using now is dehumanizing and soul robbing…I mean, I get where they are coming from as employers wanting to make sure people are producing, but there is something about being tracked like a robot, that makes people sick…

You've got it all wrong…I hate Socialism and those of Sander's ilk. I love Capitalism and Free Markets, but not this new brand of soul-killing, "slash & burn" Capitalism that has taken over in Corporate America now…there has to be some compassion in Capitalism or it does not work, which is what we are seeing now…

Yes, I had it easy for many years as a pharma rep, but believe me, I am paying the price for my sloth now…

Still, you may be surprised to know that I am a conservative and not a lefty!

You sound like a real slacker to me. Sounds like the problem was your lazy work ethic, low IQ and poor social skills You paid the price for being a slouch, noting else !!!!
 




Merck is the most socialist company I've ever seen. Nepotism, favoritism, realignments, " data smoothing", " objective re-calibrations", "metric attainment", " bell curves" " outliers" "bonus buckets", " EDP's", " PIP's" rankings, quotas...all tools that most resemble a hammer all while you await the sickle. The many all working to benefit the few.

Merck, at the sales level least resembles any type of chance for achievement, capitalism, or real sales advancement, opportunity or reward.

Merck sales, sells its salespeople a lie.
 
















the mistake that people make, are still making at corporations lke Merck, is that they want it to be a career. It's not. Hasn't been for a long long time. There's nothing wrong with working for a company like Merck as long as you don't view it as permanent. Set a goal, ten years max. Go in and go total mercenary. Make as much as you can. Run over others were possible. They don't care about you why should you care about them? Crawl over the bruised and bleeding bodies, rise as high as you can, get what you can while you can, then get out. Have a long term goal. Pad your resume. Any time past ten years at Merck and you are basically unemployable on the outside. Employers wonder what's wrong with you. Why you stayed so long. It shows a lack of ambition. Use Merck just like it uses you. A Merck sales position is a entry level position. Everyone knows that. Treat it as such. The trap is too many view it as a career. These are the ones that were lucky to get in in the first place and will rise no further. They're just hanging on dodging inevitable layoffs. That's no way to live.
 




Much easier said than done. People deal with age d now younger and younger. One gets used to the money and benefits and the golden handcuffs are on you. Not so easy to walk away from that and flex time. Many people do something on the side and that is what I truly suggest. Do something fun, for money, that you like, etc. but wait until a package unless you really want to switch careers like go into nursing, etc.
