Working at Gilead

Can someone give me an honest answer about what it is like working at Gilead? A friend approached me about an open position and told me how good the products are, great money, etc. I left pharma a few years ago for a medical disposable position and haven't really looked back. My friend said great things about the company, money, etc. I'm not looking to go back to working for a typical pharma company, where I have a manager with me every two weeks and where meetings are filled with roll plays of a message the company crafted for me. Are you able to run your "business" like you want to? Salary range? Thanks in advance for your feedback.

Really good company, depending on division. Gradually getting to be more "big pharma," but still very good company to work for. You can run your own business. Salary range for new hire $125-140k total comp.

if it is for cardio, know that you will be treated like crap. mgmt at every level will make your life a misery. they encourage backstabbing, lies, and lousy gossip. You will be very unhappy rather quickly. if you need a job, just know it will not be a pleasant one. Sad but true.

Very true.....ton of pressure, unrealistic goals, unbelievable expectations, without anything new.....very demanding

And keeping petty whiners like this one.

what are you Austin from the A-List?????????????

truth ain't whining!!!!

so do tell - share you happy thoughts with all of us!

Fat bonuses, great ESPP, Restricted stock awards for top performers, great manager, great pipeline...

Just because you and a few others are unhappy, doesn't mean that there aren't people at Gilead who like their job and are happy here. Gilead has been quite good to me. It hasn't been perfect but I am thankful to have a job and work here.

CP is the perfect fit for whiners. You are anonymous and feel like you have an audience and that fuels the tantrums you put in cyberspace.

Sure there are a few negatives but I just think life wouldn't be the same for you if you weren't bitching to someone. If you are that miserable, if life is really that bad for you, move on. No sense staying miserable. But then again, no matter where they go, some folks just can't escape misery.

If it has been so good to you then you must be one of those backstabbing jerks! No one with integrity is welcome in this muck of a company. Your day will come and all the crap you have done to others will befall you! Justice does prevail.

WTF is wrong with you? You are a miserable wretch. Have fun playing the pity card for the rest of your life. It's all you've got in your deck.

To OP, as you probably know from CP, most of the posts on this site are like the one above, lonely, woe-is-me people who want the world handed to them and can't put in a good, honest day's work if they tried. Gilead has been good to me and I have put in the hard work to make a successful career here. Best of luck.

Trust me, I know you only get a few quality responses on this site. I appreciate the feedback.

Gilead is like every other company. It really depends on who you work for. Pay is average for the Bay. Benefits are ok except for RSU. Big announcement this year was that you can put more money in the 401K which only is a benefit to those in the very highest levels. Environment is fast-paced, and slackers are not tolerated. Personally, I think Gilead is one of the better companies to work for. It isn't perfect. Then again, what company is?

Gilead on face level seems great. Patient oriented, passionate. However once you drill down, unfortunately, there are a lot of power hungry manipulative management types who use you like a pawn to get their power position. Even HR is on management's side, with a total lack of confidentiality.

From the outside looking in it looks like a great company, but it is ran like big pharma with a lot of fear tactics. Regardless of how well you do, the company is very clickish. If you are one of the favorites nothing will happen to you. But if you are not, watch out because they will find a way to get rid of you. Some of the best reps, former Presidents Club winners are no longer here because of ridiculous goals that put them in the bottom 20%. If you are ever put on a "pip" just start looking and don't bother working anymore, because even if you do well during that period, they will ultimately let you go, trust me, I know.

Also, most of the managers are "climbers" looking out for number one and don't really care about you as an individual. I have to agree that on the CP side, the goals are too high. They only do a two quarter look back and base your goals on that, instead of a one year look back, so keep that in mind especially when the patients hit the donut hole and you're expected to grow your business!

This is very true. The goals are terrible and try and grow a product with 7 year old studies that doctors mostly laugh at......24 seconds....I'm telling you doc, its important

RDs so ridiculous, inept, and morally bankrupt in CV. even CVT'ers had more ethics than these goons. feel like i'm selling snake oil....first they tell me to focus on diastolic dysfunction and we're doing a big study; then it's an antiarrhythmic; whoops! now we're focusing on diabetes....what next????? keep wondering to myself if this drug should be marketed as an anxiolytic instead of antianginal? data really sucks.doesnt save my life, doesnt prolong my life, ETT not really different from other antianginal ETT improvements, tablet is so freakin huge i can barely swallow, and it drains my piggy bank....wait, why would i want to take this again??? hmmmm...maybe thats why we're flat...love jm's spin on that: "no attrition in sales"....
