Why do we still have contract reps?

This is just silly. Why do we have contract reps at this point? Such a major waste of money. Idk if some work full time and some work part time. Lololol but what kind of impact can a part time contract rep have? FFS just mail samples instead of paying a part time rep.

This is hilarious! Maybe the question should be - "Why don't we have only contract reps to promote this crap" Unless if you are in IPF or Oncology - the positions would be cheaper and better served by contract fulfillment.

Silly? Really? GSK is replacing their ENTIRE breo sales force (650 reps) with contract reps. I agree wholeheartedly with the comment that the contract reps are skilled and work hard. The contract reps of today are not some random body to give out samples. They are reps who have been downsized from other companies and need a job. This is the new reality brothers and sisters. Pharma, like every other capitalist company will drive down labor rates wherever possible. The best we can hope for at BI is Ashfield reps being laid off first and sparing our jobs (for a little while). Love it. lump it, get used to it.

DM here....there is typically a huge, huge difference in talent gap between contract reps and full time reps. Occasionally you find a quality contract rep but most of the time they just aren’t on the same level as what you find in full time reps. I’ve been a DM for almost 13 years and it’s just a fact.

Lol! Another ignorant f@ck. What magnifies your ignorance even more is you bragging being “a DM for almost 13 years”. If you are even a real TBM/DM, it’s truly unfortunate that you hold such a pathetic and stupid point of view.

Let me tell you how stupid you sound as a DM, if you are even a DM to begin with. You should have thought out your statement throughly before even making it. 1st off, about 98% of the contract reps were once Manufacture reps, and through either lay-off or choice are now contract reps. Virtually all contracts reps have gone through multiple manufacture training programs. Next, contracts reps couldn't give a crap about your product. It's a widget in their eyes, meaningless. The only job is to make the matrix'd calls and go home early. Why, at nearly 20-40% less salary why in the world would any of them care about you, your company, your company stock or any of the other manufacture reps. Contracts don't, as a matter of fact they humor you as you are even talking because they could care less about what you are saying.

Some contract reps have been in the Pharma business for 20+ years. They know more than you will ever think of when it comes to this business since they have seen the changes and you were just starting out when this industry got really bad. They don't want to work for a Manufacture anymore and drink the cool-aid. They don't want the fake sales goals or late night fake homework to pretend this is a sales job because they know that Pharma is Pretend Land. They could care less about your product again and just want to make the daily matrix'd calls and go home and collect a check. period.

I always find it humorous when Manufactures think that for some odd reason they are better than a contract rep when in fact all reps are one in the same when it comes to skills set since all have worked for a manufacturer at one time or another. Finally, it's just a matter of time that current manufacture reps will become contract reps.

Agree!

Most contract reps are just as good if not better than traditional company reps.

Many traditional reps/managers are holding on to see for potential severance payout.

BI has been a mess and slow to adopt to changes. Reps are not held in high esteem vs industry.

Good luck to all.

DM here again. Look I know my statement rustled some of y’all and it’s only because the truth stings. You know just as well as I do that no one respects contract reps.
When I see a rep with a contract name badge then I immediately look down on them.
Trust me, when layoffs happen we get to keep the best reps. We have to swear that a third party company makes all the decisions on who is kept and who is let go but that’s not really true. Third party does play a role and does our dirty work and gives us liability protection but if we want you gone then you’re gone. If we want to keep you then we keep you. Facts are facts.

First, I have been blessed to be in this industry for 20 plus years and have not been laid off, but this is not a true statement. BI is a private company and they do things very different here. There are very real legal consequence to not following business rules. I was appalled at the back door discussions that were going on here at this companys GTM layoff. Trust me this does not happen at large publicly held companies with legal ramifications. There may be one poor performer singled out for a layoff but the rest will fall to business rules. I have had to make that call to outstanding reps, so please take your short sided BI perspective and keep it to yourself.
