Why are DMs even necessary?

Why are We even necessary?

As a DM I hated my job. As a TM I grow numb with self dissatisfaction. This job has no intrinsic value. What do we do, really? I am too old now to change. I only hope that I have provided well for my family so my kids can break the chain of boredom. I hope they grow to be crazy artists, poor musicians or struggling entrepeneurs. Anything but a drone pharma rep living in a McMansion driving a company car. If my 20-year old self saw me now - F me.

Oh boo hoo; seriously? You chose your path. How many of your vet staff clients would love to have a company car, McMansion, nice salary/bonus and "career boredom." Listen to yourself!

I don't work for you guys but I can tell you the morale everywhere is in decline. Apparently the best leaders retired years ago. Tail end of baby boomers are too spoiled to lead well.

Jeezus remember how fun it was in the late 80's and 90's? Good times. Good times. Government regs and corporate profit mentality has sucked the life out of the job.

Still not gonna see Mike Rowe ever do an episode on pharma sales, lol - it could be a lot worse, lol!!!!

My DM is the hardest working man I know. He is a family man and sacrifices a lot for his career. This is my first visit to this site and it must be the place for unhappy folk to vent because our job is all not that bad. I have limited work experience outside Merial, but I will not leave as long as I am working with BG. I wouldn't want the responsibility and pressure of a DM.

Sales is fun, people! If it were easy we wouldn't make so much money. A bonus is just that, you can't count on it and not everyone can earn a big one every year. Hell yea, its unfair when expectations are too high. But I admit I don't always give 100% to the job. I have my lazy weeks. During a lazy spell my DM is there to encourage and help me out of the rut.

Stop dumping on the DMs. Pull up your pants. There are bigger problems we face that endanger our lifeblood.

This is a great attitude and reeks of wisdom and experience. Well done. You are correct. Management needs to be there to support and help grow the territory, not hinder. When you are in a situation where that is not the case, then its time to look to jump ship.

So are you saying it is time to jump ship when that DM they love so much is forced back in a territory by our crack management team ? Supportive as an old mattress.
