Why are DMs even necessary?

Good business is often about cutting out the middleman. When times are tough.. Instead of eliminating the money generators (sales reps) you need to eliminate the dead weight paper pushers (DMs). In the old days before internet and smart phones, they may have been important. Some if the best salespeople are now DMs and they are not out there turning product like they used to. If Merial wasn't paying the inflated DM salaries and bonuses, both the company and the reps would benefit. Get rid of underperforming reps, get rid of the DM positions and put those high performers back in the field. They would probably be happier anyway.

It sounds like you are a DM, who thinks they were a pretty good rep.
Go out and ride with your reps, coach them, take over the sales call and sell something for these dead weight reps. Call on the Z accts, build those orders for the mothership. Do it for the team man!
Or you will be back in a terr like the dead weight DMs that are now reps

Look over on the Sanofi Board.. Someone else likes this idea and has expanded on it.

My 14 year-old daughter can push paper for $10 bucks an hour.. If any DM out there is looking to sub-out his/her workload.

If I were a DM I would double-check my retirement plan because forced retirement is around the corner.

My DM is the hardest working man I know. He is a family man and sacrifices a lot for his career. This is my first visit to this site and it must be the place for unhappy folk to vent because our job is all not that bad. I have limited work experience outside Merial, but I will not leave as long as I am working with BG. I wouldn't want the responsibility and pressure of a DM.

Sales is fun, people! If it were easy we wouldn't make so much money. A bonus is just that, you can't count on it and not everyone can earn a big one every year. Hell yea, its unfair when expectations are too high. But I admit I don't always give 100% to the job. I have my lazy weeks. During a lazy spell my DM is there to encourage and help me out of the rut.

Stop dumping on the DMs. Pull up your pants. There are bigger problems we face that endanger our lifeblood.

I am in the southeast, and our mgr is a tool. I believe we could do without this person just fine in the field.
They add no real substance and can't fight their way out of a wet paper bag.

I am the OP. Definitely not a DM and wouldn't be one for any amount of bonus or raise or perks. Why would I want a redundant job that's going to be phased out before I am even ready to retire?

Where have been. Over the past 5 ys or so there have been many bumps down.
They need to bump mine down. He is horrible. Fat dump and stupid. I just do not know how long I can take this crazinees. He really needs to be a rep again.
Hell, he was just an ok rep.
