Who was your favorite Syntex District Mgr?

I'm so sorry to hear about Dave Benjamin's death. He was the best manager I ever had in this business. I will never know how he managed to stay grounded and normal in a business that's anything but. Dave, I still use some of your famous "Dave-isms"...and I always credit you. You'll be missed!

Kenny Webb may have talked like a redneck and maybe he was one, but that little guy was smart and could really sell. I was in the same region with him at Syntex and I think he got four or five Regional Rep of the Year awards. Somebody told me not too long ago that he's doing the same thing at Roche.

Not sure he married though...thought he was still in East Tennessee. I would be shocked.....thought he was a life time single guy.....

Really nice fella, I competed with him.

Marion Sena is still, 15 years into my pharma career, one of the best mgrs I have ever reported to in the pharma business. Fair, intelligent and driven. She taught me so much about the business, and about how to be a leader in an organization.
Pat Minogue was not the best mgr, but certainly knew the business. He taught me how "not to manage people", so I did learn from him, although I didn't respect his style.
I am deeply sorry to hear about Dave Benjamin. A real class act who was a "rock" during the Syntex/Roche transition.

Charlie Brett---The guy was pure class. I worked for him over 15 years ago and he is still the best DM I've ever had. When he left after a field visit I always wanted to make more calls. He made you feel really important and he never said anything negative.........Wherever you are Charlie, my best to you!!!!!!

I cannot remember too many managers from this industry who were more genuine than Dave Benjamin. He loved what he did, and he did it better than just about any other manager I ever worked with. I will miss you Dave.
God Speed. (wcurtisb@comcast.net)

Bob Palma - NYC - is he still at Roche? Gave me my first job in pharma sales - I chose not to stay with Roche and took a job in device sales. I owe Bob alot and hope things are going well for him. Syntex was a great place to work and Bob was a grea first coach.

Ole Dave had a "Hard" time literally when it came to his trying to sell the penile pump. In all fairness, how do you sell a hand job when Viagra is your competitor. He obviously needs the shackles if he is still trying to find pharma jobs at his age. People at Syntex thought his wife had family money, but obviously not the case. Syntex coin must of gone out to that club in Brentwood and the Brentwood Academy for the kids. Sorry Dave, the old school Jessie Birchfield mentality of being laid back doesn't fit the new school nazi pharma style of verbatims and compliance.

Dave had a hot temper down deep. Probably can't believe Tebutt is President at UCB while he will end his career here or at best a CSO. You knew something was rotten in Denmark when he praised up people like Kenny (my name is Earl) Webb. He loved the old rednecks..ie. Wendell H., Uncle Jessie, Kenny.

Ole Dave liked anyone that did not show more ability than him, was no competitive threat or buttered him up. He did not have the time of day for someone that could not help him. It is all coming back to get him, some he thought could not help him then will not help him now when they can be of value.

He promoted those that either partied with him or slept with him- they all turned out to be bad managers and losers

Re: Where is P.Starkman:

Last time I spoke w/ Pauly he and Charlotte were living in Albequerque NM. (I never was a good speller) Paul gave me my first job in ATL, and I think of him often and will never forget his kindnes. I miss him terribly and greatly valued his humor and mentorship.
