Who Stays, Who Goes?

The best are on the Short List

During the Equinox layoff of 2003, it seemed all of the two dozen or so people in my "job reahbilitation" group ("outplacement firm counseling sessions") were all highly intelligent, heavy hitters, boat rockers.

When your top management is already mediocre, layoffs mean one thing: the best are on the short list.

Very perceptive observation. Remember merck loves the bell curve. middle is safe. I too was sent to a "re-education camp", got a performance memo, finished third in the region for Januvia. canned two months latter. had a manager who had the ombudsman called on her several times. hr had to do an intervention. lesson: if you have good ideas-it's best to keep them to yourself - only mother merck can have good ideas, or so the propaganda goes...

too bad you didnt follow guidance of Houston Onc SP rep.........fake disability, be on vacation for at least a year, take LARGE settlement and get job with Lab/Diagnostic company. The only Onc rep to be let go is in the same town as MD Anderson?? Really?? REALLY?? Make sure its a "disability" that cant be disproved.

Curious...anybody know what management decides about the complainers? Ya know, those who always need to be noticed, heard and given a candy flavored pacifier.

That is funny since I know many folks left at the New Merck and have not talked to one person in the past year who likes it there. People seem to hate the New Merck and you can't fire everyone.

I ll put up money that all the ones who stay and the ones who go are already known. If you do well this year bank that money cause you may have to live on nothing if you end up on the unemployment line or in a not much better than unemployment, CSO job.

OR, being let go from Merck will be the best thing that could happen to you. Don't think everyone will end up jobless; in fact, some will land better positions. Besides which, money isn't everything....but sanity is! As we all know, Merck is an insane place.

Merck does not even have the real tools anymore to measure true performance so we've gone back to touchy feely bullshit that places the best reps in the hands of the managers who even have less of a feel for the customers! When we talk about what our customers want and need this company is so out of touch that we'll make ourselves more irrevelant every day! In most cases we're still trying to make this more complicated than it is! I suspect that in places like Minnesota and Arizona we QCS'd ourselves right out of an office..most of the exercise of getting inside a docs head and practice should never have been done in that manner! All summed up by one customer, "If your little partner asks me one more question about my practice I'm going to kick her out of the office and never let her back in again." "She asked me tons of useless questions that she already should have known and never answered what I asked about the product."
