Did you start a job search after Jiminez said he will cut spending in sales and marketing even more, that we are spending too much here?

Maybe if you would quit sniveling and blaming the President, of all people, for you sorry lack of employment, you could focus on getting a real job. I was also let go on the last go round, but had a job within a month. I am making more money then @ Novartis, of course not in pharma. I never wasted one minute crying about my state, and had prepared before the axe fell for alternatives. By the way, I am a male in my late 50's.
I also was downsized last year. I opened the business that I always wanted to have, used the severance package, capitalized on the relationships I have made over the years, and I am tracking to net ~$280,000 this year. What the business is--not important. All you need is some creativity, lots of ambition, and a plan that should have been made years ago. By the way, I am a 40++ woman
Good luck finding work in this horrible economy! I was laid off in the last go-round (December), and STILL have not found decent work. (Yes, have been on many many interviews and many companies only want to pay $12 - $15 an hour with no benefits). The corporations know this and know that we're desperate and are taking full advantage of our situations.
Having Pharma Sales on your resume hurts your chances for finding a sales job in another industry. Heck, it even hurts your chances for finding another Pharma gig.
It's career-limiting, and I wished that I'd never put as much time in as I did!
Now we have even MORE laid off reps from Pharma, not to mention all the other companies that are laying off.
If you have a huge mortgage payment, I feel very sorry for you. If you have a stay at home wife/husband and you're sole breadwinner, I feel sorry for you. I anticipate even more foreclosures and bankruptices from all this. Think you're so good that you can get a job anywhere? Good luck on that as well. You're now competing with the millions of other unemployed out there. Unemployment compensation, depending on the state you live in, can run anywhere from $275 - $500 a week. Try making a mortgage, paying your house/car insurance and feeding your family on that! It's not easy!
I blame this horrible President of the good ole' USA for this monstrosity that he has created. Even if we get him out of office, it will take years, and I mean years, to get us out of this mess of debt and deficits he has left us in. Unbelievable that he wants to increase it more from this phony jobs bill that will do nothing to create jobs, except put more work into his union buddies hands. May GOD bless us all during these hard times. Certainly, this is a period in my lifetime - (mid 50"s), that I would have never imagined would have happened in our country! Good luck to you all.
I am in my early 50s, quit Big Pharma because it was leading to a nervous breakdown, am umemployed, un-insured, and will have to sell my house in a year or two...Thanks Hussein Obama....I never dreamed I would see a third world regime running the USA...not even a Reagan like republican could fix the mess that has been created in the last 3 years...It is truly an Obamanation now...
Those wishing to stay in pharma need to make connections with contact sales organizations. It IS the future of pharma sales. Once perceived as a joke, it will be the standard as companies simply don't want the overhead of numerous sales forces.

Sorry all you anti O people - you must have just crawled out from under your rock and caught a Glenn Beck program....
The country's troubles began loooong before O was voted in, the class warfare issue was (and is) being propagated by the right wing, and the future under any party is looking very grim indeed. I'm an independent voter who looks at all sides and tries to vote for the best candidate - unfortunately the PAC of big business have blurred thel ines and made ALL potential leaders into a bunch of "tell 'em what they want to hear, do want the money pays me for" crooks....
Don't blame the left or the right, blame the voters for drinking the kool-aid they are fed.
