Who is considering the buy of Nycomed?

What do you people think it means for the folks in Melville, Hicksville, New Jersey and PA? Takeda doesn't seem to manufacture anything we make in the two plants on Long Island. Might we be spared?

The short answer is: Run for your life!!!! The long answer is, Takeda makes all their bulk product in Japan. The only thing they do in the US is package it into clinical supplies or final product for sale. Having worked there 11+ years, I can tell you the culture is at the lowest point ever. It was a great place to work, back in the early 2000's. They had a big layoff last year (28% of US employees) and their biggest drug, Actos, goes generic in August 2012. They are completely run by Japanese execs, and believe me they don't give a flying f*** about anyone else. I would be shocked if there isn't another big layoff by next year this time....or sooner.

Takeda offer of over 8 billion euros ($11.4 billion) has been discussed, BUT The sources noted that negotiations are at an advanced stage and a deal may be announced as soon as next week, with one of the people suggesting that Nycomed seek more than 10 billion euros ($14.2 billion). SO the game is not over yet.........

it would be very interesting to know what happened to the employees of Millenium Pharmaceuticals, which was bought in 2008 by Takeda. Does somebody know that???

If C. Thom is still heading that operation up, everyone is OK. She can and does shield them from the Japanese leadership. Completely different atmosphere from Takeda. Also M'ium was in the top 50 companies to work for this year (maybe top 10? someone look it up).

Emergency countries like Mexico and Brazil do have Takeda and Nycomed.
what gonna happen with Takeda Employees? The Boss Takeda take it all or Nycomed has a chance to keep the jobs?

I work in house for Takeda. Been at the company 10 years. When Takeda bought Millennium, there was an agreement that Millennium would be left alone entirely for two years. Even though that period expired, Takeda still is very hands off with Millennium. We have no interaction with Millennium employees and they never let a single person go after the merger.

As far as shielding people form Japanese leadership, let me just say that Takeda has been EXTREMELY generous financially to us as employees. The Japanese are very interested in succeeding here in the states and they have been supportive of our leadership team. The only fault I can point out is that they let the American leadership run unchecked and a lot of very bad decisions led to the layoff of 1400 employees last year.

The Japanese are interested in the long term health of the company and welfare of it's employees. The U.S. "leadership" team is more interested in upgrading their Mercedes company cars, hiring and promoting their friends and family and getting as much in their annual stock option awards as possible. They will suck the company dry and leave for greener pastures as soon as the well dries up. If I had my choice, I would rather work for the Japanese managers and directors than the American leadership I work for now.

If this deal comes through, Nycomed employees should be just fine. Takeda in general is a great organization.
