Who got laid off today?

Nonsense and grow up? Of course people will go wherever they want to go. Being laid off with a weeks notice from a company that made billions in 2 years is ruthless. I never said anyone demanded being unemployed, you must have poor listening skills. I said the company wants to maintain the non compete which was signed even after laying people off. Losing a contract and telling people to ignore their hcv selling skills is unethical. I am talking about the treatment of humans not the product market place. Maybe you should open your eyes and listen with your ears from now on people may not argue with you as much.

Actually with WARN you have at least 2 months notice. Thats pleanty of time.

Vertex is NOT going to attempt to hold you to a non-compete, after firing the entire sales force. Even without the layoff, non-competes are virtually impossible to defend unless you have access to commercial secrets etc. Drug reps are entry level professionals with no "secret" information, or "secret" customer lists etc. Your customers are all publicly known, and any information on them can be garnered via IMS (prescribing, etc). Every single thing that you know about your drug (launched or pipeline) is available to anyone on the internet>

The bottomline is that there is no rational reason to force you to remain unemployed. Just go find yourself a job, and stop ruminating over this silly piece of paper. It was NEVER enforceable.

Be smart, people. Vertex got out of the HepC business. Incivek is effectively dead. Look at the restructuring costs they are incurring. They won't pursue your non-compete for a business unit they have shut down and have told Wall Street the gig is over -- the future is CF. Just be quiet about your next job and keep on hunting. Every patient does count.

A rational person posts.... FINALLY!

It's enforceable if you agree to it on paper and sign it. Most won't fight and it and those that do after fees and waiting will barely end up with anything. Cold company VERTEX, we all saw this coming. Be prepared if you go to Abbvie for another job for 2 years max, they cut their people like anyone else does. Abbvie is set up to hire 150 people now and another 150 by launch...you really think any GI sales force needs 300 reps- well 300 to launch and 1/2 gone in a year, that's cold

Look, its been dissolved. Technically it was enforceable" prior, in that you agreed to sign it. But, most courts will not enforce a non-compete in a situation where you are dealing with entry level folks, who do not possess trade secrets, customer lists, etc. Drug reps do not possess ANY trade secrets, or "customer lists" that every other drug company does not have. Thats why Vertex is the only drug company that Ive ever heard of that made people sign one.

Its almost like asking a supermarket cashier to sign a non-compete; yeah they can sign it, but will not be challenged if ignored. If challenged, the case likely would have been laughed out of court by a judge or jury. I know of several reps, and management that have left Vertex, and went directly into other jobs in HCV. The company didnt even say Boo!

Thats the nature of the business now. There are no more 30 year pharma sales career, you are now guns for hire, promoting single products; then poof, you are gone! So yeah, if faced with an Abbve job for 2-3 years at 1ook+ and bonus, car, or $400/wk unemployment, Im taking Abbvie and loving it. You will soon see that there is no greater scam, in terms of preposterous income, than pharma sales, none. You would be lucky to make evn 1/4th your current income outside of pharma sales, as you do not really develop any skills, not even sales. Go on a job interview and describer your "selling cycle"? Loom at the interviewer being perplexed when they wonder how you can call yourself a sales person when you never CLOSE a sale. Closing does not mean "doc can I have your next ten patients"? NO, thats just a dumb questions. If that was closing, every car or insurance sales person would be rich. Closing is not asking, its GETTING!

You're a moron. Probably have a cheap suit and bad breath.
