When will Layoffs start?

Hopefully the first layoffs will be JB, and all the others at the top (sans golden parachutes) who made the reckless decision to tell us to stay in the field and to inform us we could apply for disability or workers comp or buy vacation days. Unbelievably incompetent, dangerous individuals.

A recession...LOL...This was the best economy ever and it has lost 1/3 of its value in three weeks over 100 deaths. I think it just might bounce back a tad when this is done.

Omg. I just read some of the other threads. I didn’t realize Amarin had layoffs before. Are any of you “Legacy” reps- if so how many reps were left be laid off? This is scary.

All of you guys are missing the forest for the trees! This pandemic is going to change the Pharma sales model forever. When this is finally all over (the lingering effects will take a long time), physicians offices will want to reduce their risks going forward, and they will realize that they really don't need (or want) Reps coming into their offices and hanging around in sample closets, etc. More and more offices will ban Reps outright. No way Amarin will be able to sustain having 800 Reps to sell one drug. The model is obsolete. Layoffs are inevitable

So true!

Or, pharma companies will realize that reps are no longer needed in the field and will implement virtual calls
The costs saved by doing virtual calls makes it a no-brainer. You’ll just need one physical rep cover a group of many of today’s territories to do sample drops and requested in office visits. Many of us will be lost

This is so true. Adding so many Reps to call on Primary Care, and having 2-Reps per territory is a strategy that was employed by most Big Pharma 10-15 years ago. Almost every company now is shedding Reps and totally getting away from 2-Reps per territory alignments. This is not going to end well. It was a bad strategy to begin with, and couple that with what will be the new reality of offices becoming off-limits to Reps, and you will have mass layoffs across the industry.

End of the month. Employers pay their benefits for employees monthly, so our healthcare, etc is paid through the end of March. Absolutely no reason to keep us around after that. Our offices will be so busy with their own patients and COVID19 (real or imagined) that they will not want to hear from "stay at home" reps. Plus, they're likely to be working with fewer staff because of the spread of the virus and issues like childcare since schools are closed. We are just doing busy work right now. I'm actually glad that they're are keeping us on for the remainder of the month because they certainly don't have to.

This busy work is mind numbing. Virtual lunches and sales calls - laughable. They will just do direct mail to offices regarding samples and copay cards. They can also hire temporary workers to do follow up calls with offices. Given the circumstances, these would be much more cost effective strategies. Let's face it, if we were running the company, we would probably make the same decisions.

Let's hope that all the efforts to flatten the curve work and that we can get the country running again by mid-summer. Good luck everyone.

Let’s just say I am realistic.
No, you are a lemming headed for the cliff. Get a grip, it going to be an 8-10 week siesta- they may not want to pay us but it makes no sense for them to fire us then rehire in 8 weeks...not gonna happen. Chill out, drink a few Coronas and muddle thru the bullshit over the next 2 months.

You are not getting the big picture here. This virus is not just going to affect life the next 8-weeks, it is going to change life in America in hundreds of different ways, forever. One of those changes is going to be the Pharma sales model. Do you really think that doctor's offices are just going to let Rep's come waltzing in 8 weeks from now (or 10 weeks or 24 weeks)? You are going to see a flood of offices that say no more Rep's. Management will quickly realize that they don't need 800 Rep's if those Rep's can't be productive and do their job as originally planned. Rx's will be below forecast, and the financial calculations will cause management to cut the salesforce. Headcount is always a companies largest cost, and when things get tough, layoffs are the first thing they go to in order to strenghen the balance sheet.
