What if BED indication does not get approved?

It's time we forget every bad habit to be a disease. It just gives fat pigs another excuse to eat, a drunk to drink, a doper to take dope, a smoker to smoke. Time these weak, miserable turds take responsibility for themselves.
Too many resources wasted on them. To all you fatties out there, try shutting your mouths and getting off your fat asses instead of crying, woe is me. YOU are the cause of your own problems! Face them, beat them and get on with your lives!

Right! Doctors want them designated diseases so that a pay or code is attached and they get payed to "treat" them. Psychs have been masters at it, everything is a mental disorder or syndrome with a code. It's funny everyone is cured when the insurance runs out. What a racket!

This indication is not sitting right with me personally. I'm trying to get excited about it, but I'm starting to sense this is a money grab.

We are being asked to create a market out of scratch to promote a Schedule II drug for a short-term fix for individuals who need much more than a drug to fix this psychological problem.

Anyone else have these same thoughts?

Is anything right in today's society? Maybe you should go back to dropping off your allergy samples to primary care offices.

Stimulants are looked negatively upon everyday, and have been for years. What's important is, that they work, and you have the opportunity to sell the best available one out there, so get off CP and go sell something.

I feel the same. Anyone with an ounce of moral compass can't feel good about this.

This will be a ploy to convince doctors they have patients that have this "disease". Then once we do that we need to convince them to treat an addiction with a highly addictive scheduled 2 medication instead of treating the emotional issue that's actually causing the disease. Let's drug the addict with another drug because a scheduled 2 addiction is much better than a food addiction. Let's not forget that as soon as they stop the medication the food addiction is still there. This is like telling a alcoholic to substitute drugs for his alcohol addiction.

Not to mention there was a death in the trial. It's a sad society where death is better than binge eating. Where we would rather feed an addictive medication and it's side effect profile over truly fixing the emotional underlying issue.

It's cool to give a CII to a 6 year old for being a class clown but not to the obese 40 year old mother who has struggled with impulse issues half her life ? I've got news for you all, although it's not being promoted as a diet pill it will certainly be used that way. keep Momming Yall.

As OJ says, "Really Man!"

Just wait until they complete the studies in pre school kids. Should be fun talking to your doctors about 4 year olds! But by then Shire (and FO-PS-KK, et al) will be long gone and cashing their checks. Ask PS about his moral compass when he's kicking off the binge meeting in DC.

Binge is for 21 year olds and up. That is hardly 40. Starting a young adult off with an addiction. Nice. Lastly Adhd is not vyvanse at the MAX dose. Adhd is chronic and by all means if it can be treated with counseling without meds it should be. If you are pushing adhd meds for the class clown that says more about you and your character. Binge eating is an addiction. I agree with the above poster that said it's a scary thing when we are treating an addiction with anything other than counseling. I refuse to promote this. I will sell adhd but I wont push this for binge. It's just wrong.

Glad I'm not the only one who feels this way about promoting V for BED. Wish I didn't feel this way, but my gut tells me that this is wrong. Not sure what to do about it?

I agree. I feel as if we are praying on people with an addiction. Maybe there is a severe case of binge eating out there where the person would die if they didn't control it. That's the only thing I can think of.

Just play the game. The RD's received the ideal verbiage to handle the objections for certification. My RD passed it out and we have been told to practice it this week. The goal is to score high on the certification to make our region look good. Pass the certification and do whatever you want in the field. If you don't want to promote it, don't. All kK cares about is that her little certification is a success.

Agreed.

And this my friends is exactly why Kathy has no leadership skills for this job. To her "the big picture" is only found at the IMAX theater.

You have sold your soul. Just because nothing is right in your society doesn't mean that's ok and we should all not care. What if it was your loved one? Would you tell your son or daughter to go on a lifetime maxed out dose stumulant to HIDE a eating disorder?? Yes, the word hide because that's all vyvanse will do. I would enroll mine into a addiction treatment center to treat the emotional distress issue causing the disorder.

How nice of your RD. Received nothing from mine.

It might be kind of a weak indication but I'll say this. I will feel better selling Vyvanse for binge in adults who have the capability to make their own decisions on what is good or bad for them versus selling it to peds so they can prescribe it to a young child who has no say in the matter. And unfortunately many times it's misused as really just a quick fix the parent is looking for in reaction to their poor parenting skills. We may not like to say it out loud but I think it's safe to say stimulants are being prescribed for children who may not really need them. I'm not saying there isn't a true need for ADHD and it s is a great med. But be honest-we all see it when we are sitting in the waiting rooms waiting to see our docs. At least these adults have a say and will know what they are getting into.

Holy Toledo- it's bad enough to hear KK and PS sandbag this indication, but if you don't believe in the indication or the science move on to another company instead of whining.

How is it that no one has mentioned the death in the very first trial 70mg group? It was published in the JAMA already so it's not like our physicians are not going to ask about it. I feel as though everyone is trying to pump a lot of hype into this indication meanwhile they are hiding the real questions we are going to hear in the field.
