We need Pfizer!!!

It feels good to see how PFE shares still linger in the $20s in spite of everything they tried. You live by the sword (aka financial engineering) you die by the sword. It's embarrassing how in spite of stock buybacks, divestitures, M&A they still can't move the needle.

You think Pfizer shareholders realize they will OWE capital gains? So, while the company saves 15 percent in taxes (Whoopee!), the shareholders will pay and get screwed. The last I read the top two shareholders at AZ were AGAINST the takeover because Pfizer is such a dirty company.

Hey genius, at some point, Pfizer shareholders ALL hope to have capital gains, and the tax bill is expected. So here, the capital gains are sooner than expected. That's a win, and all investors know there will be tax bill when there are gains. Oddly though, since peeps are alleging that all Pfizer shareholders are rich white folks, why you suddenly so protective of them getting a tax bill for capital gains ? Besides, it's mostly mutual funds that hold Pfizer stock, so it's not like your neighbor is gonna get a huge letter from IRS. Huge tax bill sure, but also a net positive of new money to the investors who gained. Tax bill? Moot issue. All investors expect a tax bill when there are gains

Wrong. Top 2 shareholders are in AZ for the high dividend payout if 4+ percent annually, which is higher reliable return than other income-focused investments. When pfizer wins, that dividend goes bye bye to help pay the costs of buyout. And to invest in r$d. It's very likely the nice AZ dividend payout would be reduced to a much less attractive dividend from Pfizer. That would be why large, income-focused investment funds would not be in favor. Growth funds would be against because new company wouldn't be providing much ROI until after new company consolidates expenses. But for now, investors wanting capital appreciation, gains, it's an amazing deal for those AZ shareholders, and it's going to get better next week. Then they will put their net AZ gains into the next prospect.
