You guys are missing the point with Goodwill and Salvation Army. They actually EMPLOY handicapped people -- who the hell do you think PAYS these people. They also have Job counselors and training available. None of that is free. If they want to charge $1.50 for a pair of $75 slacks or a dress, that's fine with me.

And they have upkeep for the buildings as well.

For real. I have given thousands of dollars of stuff to Goodwill for this reason (nice tax deduction, too). I'm considering teaming up with them for some assembly and packaging (one of my products) as well. Awesome organization.

I 'get it' DD, the whole point of my post #15 was - at least treat me with some semblance of courtesy when I'm making a donation. When my mom passed in Dallas last Fall, we had a time crunch due to her lease expiring and 2 of us living in other cities. We decided to 'donate' most everything - clothing, TV, furniture, etc. My sister researched and found an organization that we liked and they sent a truck out with 3 workers and took everything. They were the nicest people you could deal with.

Vag, you should have gotten the guy's name and alerted the manager of that facility. Believe me, I've NEVER been treated like that here. And they don't want anything in a bag here either. I take it in the front door of Goodwill and lay my items on a counter. If it's a Sunday, I go to one of the little outposts where someone is always working in what looks like a small trailer and the clothes or whatever is put in specific bins.

Don't blame an entire organization because of one person.

Salvation Army came when my Mom passed and I had everything in boxes. They were really nice, too.

You're right, I just had to rant. I thought about calling in but then I got to ythinking maybe the guy was in recovery and sometimes that process has some rough spots. Al;so looking at Phoebe's post reminds of wehen my mom worked at St Luke's hospital in KC and they did twice annual rummage sales.

They got 1st pick of the good stuff too and I participated, howebver, I always paid what they had it marked for. There was a guy in town that owned a car dealership and he was just my size and wore nice suits. I always had $200 suits (That was lare 60s, early 70s) which were like $600 andf up now and I paid $20 per suit - I never took them for free though.
