Vessel Sealing

At this rate Valleylab's gonna come out with another generation of technology before we even get our first generation out. After all, we've been unable to get our five year old design out the door. No wonder Covidien laughs at us!

You guys working on that secret plan? Wait until every account in the country has multiple systems and the docs are set like concrete. Then introduce your late to the market vessel sealer with overpriced handpieces. Oh yeah and leverage your HPG and NHA contracts.

If and when you do get it you reps will be under the gun with management pressure and are gonna be f***ing miserable. No doubt they will add reps to try to make a bigger splash in which your shrunken territories will be like coffins. Oh thats right...you can leverage your smoke evacuation business too.

Don't forget about Bovie's "any day now" Seal-and-Cut, Aragon's CAIMAN, the forthcoming launch of Ethicon's combined Harmonic / SurgRx device...

The rest of the world isn't as impressed with ConMed as they are with themselves.

I'm underwhelmed by the total void of chatter about the new ALTRUS tissue sealer. Conmed took forever to get this thing working and get it approved and now everyone seems to be "oh shit" what do we do now. Not even one newbie rep on here crowing about how Conmed is gonna revolutionize the market. After years of harassing hospitals about Surgical Smoke and pissing off hospital contacts you want to get approval to bring this thing in the 90+% of hospitals that have Ligasure/Triad/Gyrus. Good luck...that is the least that you will need.

What's the motivation for a facility to purchase an ALTRUS? Lower price? Improved performance, e.g. larger tissue bundles, faster sealing? The Valleylab system is tough to beat and Olympus/Gyrus and Ethicon/SurgRx are as well. At least you guys aren't bringing up the rear like Bovie.

rumor has it that list price is going to be @ $700 each. good luck....

ConMeds System has a "few" inherent issues that started with a project driven by a marketing requirement of an organic curve in the tip geometry. The tip sandwich bonding process is poorly understood, and there is enough variation in the thermal heaters the controller programming needed to extremely complex to use one energy source with multiple sealing hand pieces.I hope other products do not suffer the same glitches.

Out for a month and no one can jump on here and say how great it is and if it actually works! Oh that's right...hospitals don't even want to have a Conmed Vessel Sealing system evaluated in their hospitals...

As one one great coach said "When you win, say little. When you lose, say less." We are happy to stay under the radar....

Is it better? Yes. How? Ask your surgeon once he's switched to it.

...and what is the incentive for a surgeon to make the switch so that he can experience the ecstasy of said alleged improvements?

Best of luck inducing the mass exodus from Ethicon / Valleylab. See the following from Covidien's 1Q report.

Energy double-digit quarterly sales gain was again due to a sharp rise in sales of vessel sealing products.

That's great. Enjoy it while it lasts.
