Very happy to be retained

I know some people are hoping to be let go and enjoy their severance. Just found out I was retained and I am very thankful. Yes, several months of "vacation" would be nice, but I don't want to scratch and claw with thousands of other displaced pharma reps for an entry level position. I have been with Pfizer for 16 years and Pfizer has paid the bills quite nicely. Yes, Pfizer has HUGE negatives, but look at the alternative. Months of unemployment, depression, rejection, anxiety, stress and the huge financial burden of trying to support my family on a much smaller salary. My heart goes out to the King reps and everyone who lost their jobs today. Good luck to you all. Thank you Pfizer for retaining me.

Are you fucking kidding. You are a loser. Unemployment, depression, rejection, anxiety, stress.... how about joy, relief, more money, job waiting, happiness, owning my own soul, not acting like a fucking pfizer clown, sheer fucking joy. You kind of reps embarrass me. I am glad you were kept too, you need this welfare for your family to survive.

What an asshole. If your heart really does go out to those who weren't retained, you wouldn't post a fear- and anxiety-provoking post like that. I was kept as well, but I am clear-headed enough to know 3 things that you haven't figured out yet:
1) people are nervous and don't need some insensitive asshole like you telling them how depressed and worried they should be.
2) it could (and probably will) be us next time
3) there is life after Pfizer. Unemployment is paid for a reason and with what most people made here, they should be able to collect a decent check. EVERYONE will land on their feet.

Get a grip and realize there are more important things than a paycheck. At the same time, it is stressful for those who have been thrown a curveball. Why didn't anyone raise you with compassion? I feel most sorry for you.

Pfizer owns you.

You are exactly who they should retain to keep their toxic corporate culture. Maybe you will get up in the wirlybird one day too..

Northern California.

I have been with Pfizer for 16 years. I make a high salary for this industry. There is no way I will get a similar gig elsewhere. I have a family and kids in college. I can not start over. Yes, Pfizer has serious issues. Hell, the country has serious issues, but I'm DAMN lucky to have this job. It's just reality that the displaced reps are NOT going to get similar 6 figure jobs. Maybe a lucky few. Yeah, a paycheck isn't everything, but try living without one. To the King reps, I'm sorry Pfizer treated you like shit.

Congrats (for now); where are you?

I totally get it and was happy to see somebody keeping their job. It is what it is.

Legacy King (Michigan) rep here. Thank you for the classy post. Most L Pfizer reps have been wonderful - thanks. Your company isn't good to you all at times, so what chance did we have? I was displaced and it will be a struggle to find a job in this economy but I will. But you - stay strong and classy. Peace and out

Northern California? Anywhere near Humbolt? Sounds like you're smoking too much weed if you think working for Pfizer is "lucky".

OP here-listen,stop with the name calling-if you weren't one of the retained then you simply did not make it , by being one of the best of the best. Not everyone is great-live with it !!

Not the OP, I'm the OP. Reps did not make it based on being the best of the best. Most reps I have worked with are all on about the same level. Yeah, a couple sucky ones here and there, but most have been great colleagues.

Everybody is different.

I was not retained and I am just fine with that because if I had been retained I was going to retire anyway. I waited for Pfizer to show it's hand so I had as many options as possible.

Being legacy Wyeth, leaving under the current change of control agreement is probably a better deal for me and my family then continuing to work into the next calendar year. Currently the retiree medical benefits are better and less expensive, my pension can still be lump summed out, and the calculation for it is based on my 5 highest income years out of the last 10 years, not just the last 5 years.

So, for some of us, leaving makes financial sense.

Additionally, after 25 plus years in the business, I have had enough and it is time for me to go, with plenty of life left and the resources to enjoy it. Never good to overstay your welcome.

I am sorry that everyone didn't get what they wanted, whatever that might have been.

Good luck!

I, for one, am happy to be retained. I love what i do and it provides for my family. Anyone who says they are gonna be "free" after Pfizer is delusional. No one is free. Everyone has a boss, whether it be a company, the success of your own business, the responsibility of a family and let's not forget the Feds. I think your attitude about this job depends where you came from. Being in the military for 8 years made me appreciate what I do at Pfizer. I try to never forget that. Some people are so self centered they don't realize what a good thing they have until it is gone. If you aren't careful, this job can do that to you. To all that were retained, congratulations. To those that were displaced, I am sorry.

Another insensitive douche -- listen buddy some people aren't goign to get pensions and some people aren't going to be able to just count their money like you. Face it, you were and overpaid sample dropper, and this is the reason PFE reps are going down. Most of us are making 30G's more than what we're worth so when we stay and others leave it's all about the bloated salaries

I only wish I could have been where you are now, with that said congratulations on making it this far, it's quite an accomplishment in this industry (or any) to achieve retirement status. You fought the good fight, now really enjoy yourself.

Poster #15

I can't and won't apologize for being fortunate, working hard for over 25 years to get where I am, seeking good advice and counsel along the way, and foregoing some luxuries to get to a place where I am financially secure. This might not have worked for everybody, but it happend to have worked for me.

Timing played a part as well. I was in the work force and in the markets when it was possible to save, invest and get a solid return over time. Those days will return in time I think.

The pharma business has clearly changed dramatically and it isn't over. I hope you will have a long and rewarding career in it if you choose to. If not, then I hope you find something else that provides what you want and need.

Along the way I hope you learn to communicate and treat others with grace and kindness. Those traits go along way in all aspects of life.
