Trump slashed drug cost 50%, get ready for layoffs!

News flash: 7/2720

Drugmakers refuse to attend White House meeting after Trump issues executive orders cost.

The Tuesday meeting is off with top Pharma Executives who refused to go or send any representatives.

Smells like layoffs are coming soon to a company near you.

The reason dumbass is they don’t agree with Washington and they don’t want to be regulated!!! AZ is rocking and rolling, stock is up, Q-2 earnings call will beat street estimates, we are a lean sales force, remember three years ago they laid off 750 from the CV side. We have the most attractive pipeline and the analysis are very up beat on many of the deals and business moves made by this company. All hail Pascal!

You make valid points. My point is simple and true: SELLING MOST PHARMACEUTICALS is not really selling, be it short sales cycle (unlike devices and disposables); contracts ( I handled hospital and health system contracts), consultative (e.g. complex disease state / pharmacologic management in contrast to package insert selling today). It is more of a loose, long cycle marketing driven, intangible selling that often is relationship driven, known data driven and even patient driven. The impact of a typical Pharma rep and Pharma manager today, 2020 is the lowest it's ever been.

Truth, with or without MS Office Suite skills and even a mighty, Wharton MBA. It simply does not translate like it did for decades.

Some good points, this is the beginning of a long, expensive, vicious drawn out fight. Why? Not because Americans are first of mind, but billions are at stake. AZ has recovered nicely. But what may very well happen my friends, is "leadership" will make personnel decisions before all this plays out. Why? To save along the way, because ultimately, U.S. drug prices and our profits will be impacted. When? Who really knows but it will occur in the next 2-4 years imho. And we are really at no more risk than the smaller biotech companies with a few onco products or biologics or orphan drugs. They are at more risk than us. So what do you do? Where do you go? I am staying right here in sales til the track runs out. But network.

In all seriousness - anyone else on the oncology side feeling a bit uneasy?
Absolutely not, we have new indications coming, compared to Mick, BMS, Amgen, Novartis, we have a small sales force. The stock is now trading at 57.00, amazing pipeline and a strong earnings report due out on Friday. Hiring and promotions, just secured another deal with Daiichi Sanko and the favorable press with the vaccine this company is firing on all cylinders.

One of Trump’s executive orders mandates by law, that Medicare will pay only what the cheapest price in the world charges for a particular drug. That’s significant. Also, drug importation will be allowed. So, if you can get branded drug A in Germany cheaper than here, go for it! That’s huge!

Biden will impose far stricter controls on drug pricing! Whomever wins in November will implement their program to control pricing to whatever degree. Time will tell. Personally, I am going to find out what country I can by my brand name drug the cheapest! I love to save money!

Bullshit, he needs big pharma ass-wipe.

The president needs votes more than he needs big pharma. Big pharma has always been an easy whipping boy for politicians. The public wants miracle cures from pharma but wants someone else to pay for them. It will be very interesting how pharma structures Covid vaccine costs to the patient. Making it dirt cheap to the patient will go a long way in improving pharma's image. High prices will fuel anti pharma attitudes.

AZ, J&J, Pfizer are going to sell as no profit, we will look like knights in shinning armor for a while, then be villainized once we cure the masses. God help us if sleepy Joe gets in, the Democrats, just hate us. But like the NRA, big Pharma has a ton of money and lobbiest to weather the storm. Just pisses me off how much they fuck with us.

True. The public has a short memory. Also, someone else should pay for my drugs. It's not fair for me to pay for them. This mentality permeates our country and goes way beyond the cost of life saving medicines.

That perspective is fine. It does sound like you drink gallons of Koolaid. [But what may very well happen my friends, is "leadership" will make personnel decisions before all this plays out. Why? AZPAC email came out today. I happily signed a letter that went out to the WH and local politicians. Took less than 30 seconds.
