Trump slashed drug cost 50%, get ready for layoffs!

This will not happen. If so, you will see both the end of an industry and medical innovation. If this happens, it doesn't just impact sales reps (you people are so myopic), it would impact everyone from R&D, Commercial Opps, Payer Markets, and yes, sales. Which would also include high level executives across the board. It would impact share holders as companies net worth would plummet. As revenue and profits dwindle there would be no incentive to develop anything new for things like oh..I don't know..cancer, HIV, Alzheimers, Parkinsons etc etc. Financial markets would take a nose dive and countries like the UK, Japan and the Scandinavia would go into an immediate recession. So keep your nimble minded comments to yourself. Also, for those who jealously throw around comments about reps being fedex drivers...What do you do? All pharma reps have a minimum of a bachelors degree. "minimum" Many have concentrations in chemistry, biology and economics. Some have MBAs. We all have skills in Microsoft Office, Power Point, Excel, and Mac operating systems. We utilize CRM platforms such as Veeva and now are regularly participating in Zoom meetings. I feel pretty good about my marketability...in any industry. I'm waaayyy ahead of you envious chicken littles out there..I can already hear your responses about the financial Armageddon coming. You are jus envious lil b!tches. Bring it lil b!tches!

You think far too highly of yourself as a sales rep. There are other ways to market products sans you. Think manufacturing before tech revolution where most done with tech vs actual people.

1: If drug prices go down they would need more people to sell that product to keep up revenue. This also will not be happening anytime soon.
2: Excel, PowerPoint, Microsoft Office, outlook etc , you are listing the same Skills, which are all Microsoft. This really highlights your lack of knowledge and understanding on basic 101 common sense and work skills Sir.

If prices drop, they would need more people to sell products???? What are you smoking???? Layoffs are coming across the board in this industry. Maybe you can add zoom and Microsoft skills to get that Postmates or Uber eats job. Your well experienced delivering food, Starbucks and talking sports, weather, your kids school and weekend activities with your customers. Your skill sets matches perfectly.

You make valid points. My point is simple and true: SELLING MOST PHARMACEUTICALS is not really selling, be it short sales cycle (unlike devices and disposables); contracts ( I handled hospital and health system contracts), consultative (e.g. complex disease state / pharmacologic management in contrast to package insert selling today). It is more of a loose, long cycle marketing driven, intangible selling that often is relationship driven, known data driven and even patient driven. The impact of a typical Pharma rep and Pharma manager today, 2020 is the lowest it's ever been.

Calm down everyone. Sure things may get tighter but AZ is doing the right thing so far. Stay positive, hope for the best and just do your part. AZ can’t control the world events. If layoffs happens let’s deal wirh it professionally. AZ is doing all they can to maintain us. Let’s do Our part to the best of our abilities. Stop posting on this thread and Let’s start a positive thread.

Yeah right AZ lives and breathes just to "maintain us." AZ couldn't give a shit about reps and what they need. I remember when good people in the bottom 20% got fired. Most had shit formulary coverage. If anyone should have been fired it was the account director. AZ is a profit making machine that lives for the stockholders. Get your head out of your ass and understand this business is dead for many reasons. Those of us prepared will do fine. Those that didn't prepare are well F*cked. Hey I hope things are fine and we will sail into the sunset with our jobs.

A pharma rep with an MBA. That's funny!

Reps bring in about 5%-7% of revenue. Most of the business is driven by the agreements. The drug has already been purchased, unless it is rare, before you speak to a practitioner. You are only around to drive demand.

News flash: 7/2720

Drugmakers refuse to attend White House meeting after Trump issues executive orders cost.

The Tuesday meeting is off with top Pharma Executives who refused to go or send any representatives.

Smells like layoffs are coming soon to a company near you.

Massive layoffs in the industry will happen this is a long overdue correction in the industry. COVID will be the catalyst to a new and more innovative and strategic approach to the business. Watch for Pfizer leading the way and everyone like sheep’s will follow.
