Triclosan?

Not really, if you are replying to the OP on Plus sutures.

J&J announced the withdrawal of triclosan from consumer products. Medical and professional products are exempt. Plus sutures will still be around.

Nah....if consumer products remove it, then it should be removed across all product lines. Otherwise it looks a little suspicious. Safe enough for absorbable/non absorbable suture but not in hand soap?......if I were an informed patient you bet I'd pass on triclosan filled suture!!
J&J might as well be proactive and remove the suture before the public (or class action suit) removes it for them!!

And now we are launching Stratafix with Triclosan just weeks after J&J announces that Triclosan is being phased out of personal care products??? That's genius!

Simple answer if you actually do your research before spouting off..
the triclosan levels required to provide the antibacterial purpose in suture are 1/8 of that found in antibacterial soaps and other consumer products. In addition, it is not retained in the body but is excreted through natural processes. But let's not let facts get in the way of a bitter agenda.

Yeah- thats fine if you are only using 1 strand of suture! I'm sure surgeons and patients will readily accept that line of BS and that will be the end of it! The simple fact that we aren't comfortable putting it in hand soap says it all! We aren't comfortabLe having you apply a questionable chemical to your skin but it's perfectly safe to put 10-12 strands of chemically treated suture into your body during surgery! I'm going to love pitching that over and over!

I love you 2 previous posters!!! Right on!! Don't let that idiot kool aid drinker think his Triclosan suture "pitch" is really going to be believeable to an already untrusting public!!
Pull this shit from the market before it's too late!! Besides, most OR patients are already receiving a prophylactic IV antibiotic dose within 30 minutes of incision, so guess what? We don't NEED Triclosan in suture!! ...oops, I have revealed too much.....but if J&J really was listening to VOC you would ALREADY KNOW that!!!

The Triclosan in hand soap isn't retained in the body either jag off!

That is true, but the end result for any form of use of Triclosan is that it releases it into the environment. Whether you pee it out or it goes down the drain, it is released into our soil and our water supply as a result. The residual Triclosan doesn't just evaporate- it's in the environment PERMANENTLY. What that means is eventually there will be resistance to Triclosan and it will all be a mute point- except that it will still be in the soil and water supply wreaking havok on our nervous systems. twitch twitch but it's not a big deal. twitch drool twitch

Since the Plus line has been so overwhelmingly successful, I'm sure the medical industry will be up in arms!!! Launched this crap years ago and unless it was stuffed in the accounts it never got any traction anyway. Blip on the radar folks...enjoy the layoffs, string and mesh are simply string and mesh. No reason to pay robots to pretend they actually contribute to surgery. It's ok to be offended, it's your employment. But if so inclined, I would love to hear you justify your positions. What's a mute point? A silent one? I am aware of a moot point but am scared I have missed an important update with the English language. Help me!!!!
