Todd

Todd is just plain awesome. He is the functional head of a large, [powerful], global organization and still comes across as approachable, down-to-earth, and friendly. His leadership skills are admirable. I just have a lot of respect for the guy.

I second that. Todd has a human touch which is not seen among the bosses at his level. I happened to be at a "meet the executive - lunch" (I forget what we called it then) where Todd was asked by a new recruit out of college what advice he has for a person starting a career. His answer was 3 things. "1. Know your strengths and weaknesses 2. Get access to your blind corners 3. Know that good times come and go and the bad times too come and go !" I thought that was profound.
We had a great company with a fantastic culture until Roche came in and took the wrecking ball to it. The friends became back stabbers and bum suckers overnight. Some of the low level managers are the stupidest I have seen anywhere. They think talking there ass off non-stop without listening, is what needs to be done to run a team. Alas !

That is so cool - now we have assembled here in the forum the "Well I hoped so much when Roche came in they would kick out all the Genentech looser management", then we have the "Genentech was so heavenly until bad bad Roche came in and destroyed all the harmony" and we have the "Damn you all" fundamentalists. How about looking for the grey in all the black and white?

PROFOUND???? Are kidding me. That is exactly the kind of drivel that Todd is famous for. Worked with him on a number of occasions and was very motivating and supportive (ala Tony Robbins) - what he was NOT was someone who got things done. To be Innovative by using anything Apple sells is not all that innovative. By the way not his idea.....

During my time there saw a lot of bad management practices and not a lot delivered successfully. Tell me again how the iPad is good for patients Todd...... What a joke

So why did both Chris and Todd leave (or get canned)?

From experience I believe they realized they were little fish in a very big and politically complex pond. Easy to be "smart" and "Innovative" when you have a product that sells billions and nobody cares how much you spend on technology. Show me how one cent of that advanced the cause of the organization or the patients.... Didnt happen!

It is a new world there (with or without Roche) and you have to actually show the ROI on the crap you chrurn out - BluePrint not delivering???? Lets close it down and call it something else, nice work geniuses.....

Chris was also an arrogant jackass..... Would never have risen that high in a "normal" corporate structure. And before you hit me with the innovative, special magical powers of the Genentech structure please make sure you are a scientist - anyone else's magic was just money wasted by managers that didnt know how to manage.....

Lets see how the rest of the magical Genentech IT leadership team survive when you have to actually show business benefit for your work...

Wonder how Ken [Wilcox] will hold up. Out of all of them, I always thought he came through as the most competant and sincere.

Glad to see Chris Jones go - he was an arrogant jackass. Last encounter with him, he held up a meeting by showing up late, real late, and made no apologies about it. good riddence.

Is Todd gone from Genentech / Roche for good? Some said he may have just moved to Roche in Basel ... with this slippery fellow, that would not be a surprise. Some of us do not want to celebrate this idiot's demise until it is confirmed - what a character he was - amazing that juts one lousy executive in IT can bring down an entire IT organization!

1. Todd did not bring down the IT organization - it's pretty much alive and better than before!
2. Still not knowing what is fact after this long time makes you the idiot.

1. Todd caused significant damage & cost overruns to the IT org - yes, it is better now with hsi departure.

2. Answer the question of the previous poster if you can - else, be quiet: calling people names shows that you may be one of the aforementioned 'idiots' - perhaps you are an incompetent nitwit hired during Todd's time; behave yourself or we will throw you out to go wherever Todd was kicked to

1. Maybe in the old Genentech times. But honestly, I don't give a rats ass about your old historic recollections. Fact is, he did an amazing job at Roche - if you like it or not.

2. Well, sure I could, in fact, everybody which is still working at Roche or Genentech could - but then again, why should we? It's much more fun watching you losers ranting on without you having any clue, what is really going on ;-)

And you know what is the coolest part - you can't throw me out here. So face it, you are all just some insignificant jesters providing us some entertainment.

I actually agree that Todd did not bring down IT - he never actually did enough to make a difference either way. His issue was hiring people just like himself who all wanted to be visionary strategists. Never had anyone that got things done, that is what is brining down IT

For anyone that has seen the actual budgets and how much money was spent to deliver crap you understand how bad they are. As someone who has been in Gene as well as other IT shops, Gene was a complete joke. Maybe when you step away from the HoHos you will get some experience in the world and realize most companies dont piss away money like that

An AMAZING job at Roche, are you kidding me? And what might you be basing that on????? As someone who was there I can assure you he did nothing for Roche.
