Rhymes with "God". And if you're in his organization you better be sure to appreciate the similarity between the two, or you'll be pushed onto the plank!

Gotta love the Tony Robbins-esque offsites, his cult-like approach to people development (Enneagram--are his minions nothing more to him than a number? Power of Mindfulness--HAHAHAHA), promoting people at random and then laying off/scapegoating them the next to cover his tracks! Now he doesn't even have to worry about that part because he spends more time in the air than on the ground!

How to you go from Director of Santa Clara govt IT to CIO? Art and Lou must have been smoking something when they thought a middle manager from county government was good enough to run the whole show at Genentech. Goes to show you how low the bar was set and how clueless the lot of them really are!

Doesn't matter. The good ones who remain are already lining up moves come bonus time. Do you really think they'd want to stick around and work for this snake oil salesman?

Perhaps the greatest "hypocrisy" is that he prides himself on identifying junior leaders with "potential", but has such a poor track record for the much easier task of hiring/aggressively promoting proven talent for senior management positions. Just to name a few:

Amanda B.
Amit B.
Bob Q.
Margaret P.
Daryl L.

The same mistakes have been repeated so many times you have to wonder what must be going through his mind.

And as far as the "junior leaders with great potential" goes, nothing can explain the selection criteria other than throwing darts at a dart board. Quite a few significant contributors have been overlooked (even a number of people that Genentech has paid to put through MBA programs), while others with no track record or demonstrated ability get fast tracked.

What a complete and total failure.

"My hope is that this note will encourage honest, self-reflective, dialogue about how each of us can promote a culture that takes risks, learns from our mistakes, and takes personal accountability for creating solutions to problems. This requires self-awareness, openness, honesty, courage, commitment, and compassion.

We have to practice these skills and qualities if we want to improve. If we don't, we increase the risk of having a culture that promotes complaining, blaming, or denying. No one wants to be in that place, but it can happen if we don't actively work on our development. We know from employee surveys that accountability and teamwork are areas where we can improve."

Um, those areas have been needing improvement for YEARS. It is shocking how much talk and how little action there has been.

FAIL.

Visionary

If visionary means whatever Apple dreams up we think is cool then he is your man. Luckily as a visionary leader he surrounds himself with "can do" managers working for him who know how to get things done....... Whoops..

How is that commercial it leadership team looking, what a bunch of losers

Toad will run around in basel and get nothing done like he has in san fran. Cant wait until they get tired of his southern baptist ministry ways. Funny anyone who has worked there publicly drinks the kool-aid but thinks he and his leadership team are morons.

Wait until his new org has been announced, should come out soon. Will be interesting to see who survives and who gets promoted...

Seriously, everybody at Roche and Genentech management is incompetent and stupid????? And you guys here are so cool because...... you got fired a while back?

What a bunch of losers you are. Why don't you get over it and move on! Seriously!

"fired"???? Are you sure about that? Anybody who is fired doesn't receive 6 months of salary as a parting gift....
