Thoughts on Genentech home office?

Moving to the home office is NOT worth it...especially to the training department. Unless you’re ready to focus all your effort on playing the game and stroking the egos of the leadership team especially the main one, then don’t make the move. Some leadership team members have tried to do what’s best for the business and the employees in that group, but they had no chance against the others who have always had their own agenda and only protect their friends and the ones who fawn over them.

You’re more likely to get promoted and recognized for making your rounds everyday to make sure the right people see you rather than doing actual good work. They rather see someone spend hours making small talk with as many people as possible rather then someone doing heads down work to meet a deliverable. There was always a consensus of who was difficult to work with and who was notorious for throwing others under the bus for their own mistakes, but because they kissed the right you know what they were never held accountable.

The funny thing is, it doesn’t seem to be a secret how bad some of the leadership is in that group and why they’re still there. The leadership is very much “do as I say, not as I do” and the lack of accountability for the under-performers and rude/negative employees is ridiculous. It wasn’t worth it for me to play the game so I got out. I’m so glad I did, because I hear it’s just getting worse.

That's pretty the description of the entire organization now. Marketing and training are just racing to the bottom. The culture is simply not sustainable. At the end, the only people left in this place will be the people we don't want to keep. This company is on life support right now. I have my final interview in a few days. I hope I can finally end my misery.

Hit the nail on the head, CMG home office has been a mess for years and now everyone is paying for it…except those who let it happen and often set the example for the entitlement and cronyism.
