Thoughts on Chicago 1S Meeting??

Waste of 3 days of my life. Bob Baranick talked about the meetings he had and then the meetings he had, fake cried about decent human beings and then talked about meetings he had. We have no respect for him, our CTls have no respect for him and leadership gives him award because they are so dis-engaged they have no idea how bad he is. Sail on. Sail on Titanic.

I know Mr. B. His cries and attempt to "feel your pain" are so staged. But Merck rewards management people like him. He fits the new selling model.

Mark Timneys message was loud and clear... It's all on our back. Underneath this conclusion is the belief that there is a 50% gain in revenue to be had by achieving executional excellence. The depth of his naivete is astounding. It will be a very bad year indeed for us all.

This is supported by Kens message sent yesterday that we will have to tighten up and achieve new levels of efficiency. Revenue is shrinking fast and margins will be kept at all costs... it's on our backs again.

Bye bye Merck.

It wasn't just the worst meeting in years, it's probably the last.

Have you all figured this out? Whenever something is not going too well, they always look at the reps as the guilty party? No one ever will say we have a problem at the HQ. Or we came up with a bad marketing plan. Pretty soon there will be more HQ people devising plans than reps executing it. That would be funny.

Let's just continue to look around and smile a lot, tell your manager how great he is and pray he doesn't make you the next one he's told to pressure out of the company. What a joke we've become. I'm ashamed. Well paid, but ashamed of what we've become.

KF's communication through video was poorly done...This is not the type of message to be delivered in that venue. The production company and his press agents should be fired...it placed him in a bad light.

Ambiguous, demotivating, w/o positive solutions....Ken, please edit your own material...you are better than what they fed you to deliver.

Zetia and Vytorin have had steady market share losses since ENHANCE and SEAS. Please help me understand the "stem the tide" statement. Thank you.

The rate of decline went from an avalanche to a trickle. The rest of the losses come from inept clinical trials and a failure to understand evidence based cardiology.

The very fact that the CEO of a Fortune 500 company, listed on the DJIA, would release a video this poorly done and executed illustrates the depth of the problems at Merck. When I watched it, my concerns about the galactic incompetence at Merck were reinforced.

I had originally predicted 10 years of relevance left for Merck. After seeing this video, I revise my prediction down to 7-8 years, tops.

I have said it before. If you are no older than your early 30s, get out now, even if you need to take a temporary pay cut to do it. Run from this industry the way you would run from a tyrannosaurus rex and hope you can reach the trees before it catches you.

If you were stupid to join this industry, have a branded resume, and are 50 or older, as I am, heaven help you (and me).

I have tried to get away from this industry for years unsuccessfully....oh well....

amen brother...(or sister) I am in the same boat...rue the day I ever got into this industry...at my age I am screwed...tried for years and years to get out, but the golden handcuffs were on too tight....

Back in my younger day I intuitively felt the future of Merck looked bad and I should get the hell out. Unfortunately, I gave the benefit of the doubt to some senior mentors that I respected and assumed their experience trumped my youthful itch and inexperience. Oh how I regret not listening to my gut feelings about Merck.

There was way too much clapping and cheering...especially during awards ceremony. That didn't seem congruous with a disenchanted group.

Agreed, those coming from SP should understand the following about mother Merck S meetings:
-For your breakout today simply walk 4 miles and find room 45930-c, wing 4,direction SSE.
-Hurry up for your county jail type food service, hard boiled eggs and Japan salad fo you.
-Don't forget your bus ride from the airport, we pride ourselves on having 3 employees per bus which gets 2 mpg's.
-Good luck getting hot water for your shower in the am, welcome to the bed bug inn.
-Want a laugh, patron the lobby bar late night to hear and see the latest talent. Nothing like overhearing how everyone differentiated at the YER.
-Wait,wait. You aren't even at the airport to return home and 50 meeting follow up emails are sent from management.
-Expenses, don't forget. Use code BS-008447
-I could go on and on but I will allow others to contribute......................................

Many were "kindly" advised by their managers prior to show as much enthusiasm as possible. Then each table is "staffed" by your manager who was mentally keeping track of who was not fully supportive of the award ceremony. In turn your manager was coached ahead in a subtle manner by someone above to make sure the troops act properly.

No doubt! Give him credit...he's no different than any other knee pad wearing manager with Merck...I remember when he first became the new regional director and introduced not only himself, but every one of his family members that were on a Merck product. No shit! I couldn't believe it... here we were wondering if we were going to have a job or not... and he's up there blowing himself and how concerned he was for everybody's well-being... a true dick! Merck's finest! Now there's reps that are jumping on the bandwagon with their kneepads slurping up every ounce of cream to keep their jobs...you know who you are out there...

Company is victim of the economy, formulary problems, twisted impressions of pharma, government lowered innovation, no approvals. BS of managers, processes make you leave but industry changes product losses lead to layoffs. Talent loss is big loss.

Worse 1S meeting in a while! Managers presenting on products, they don't know anything and when preparing they always follow the company line without any thought to how the real world works! With S1-S3 we have now formalized the plan to promote asskissers and Kool-aid drinkers at Merck and we've created a new place for those who may be loyal to someone but not necessarily to Merck but play the game! What a hoot! Hope everyone else's 1S was not as bad!

I loved watching HSAs wait I mean HSCs wait I mean people who bring no value to the bottom line, win presidents club trips. I mean seriously how does the company justify giving away like 10 presidents club trips to a bunch of socially retarded former sales reps who never influence a single sale or rx?

Hands down the most insightful, spot-on comment EVER on this board. How about the dude that clearly draws on his eyebrows and always looks surprised - yeah, I'm listening to HIM!!!
