hit a newsstand or your local library periodical room for the 12/9/13 issue of The New Yorker Magazine pg 50 Article entitled "The Big Sleep" - story of Merck's development of the new sleep aid - and the FDA's response. Very very insightful.....

Suvorexant licensing was bundled with Saphris and will be co-promoted with Forest. Don't hold your breath for this one.

Makes sense. Merck has zero reps calling on neurology and Forest is ready to roll. Makes even more sense they just offered a few neuro HSC's the same job at Forest witbout having advanced degrees. HSC's making 135 to 150k salary here plus 36k bonus were offered 160-175 k plus 45k bonus at Forest. Many get a year's salary from Merck and get retirement too. I guess there is life after Merck, a damn good one. If you can get a sweet deal like this, run from Merck right quick.

I'm the OP - and believe it or not, I get the mag delivered - so I have a "hard copy" - this way I can pass it on to my parents - who are older and do not have a computer. Their cell phone - for emergencies only - is a flip phone.
I didn't think the article would be on line yet - for free - as the mag. was only delivered yesterday.

A great article!

Next time a Provider hassles me over the cost of Brand medicine, will direct him to this story - how much time/money was expended up to that FDA meeting?
Will we ever recoup those expenditures?

The article was posted on the internet before the hard copy came out. No supscription. No money wasted, no paper wasted, it's free. Take a look at the posts before. It's called saving trees and the environment. It's the reason why the internet has taken over the world.

To the OP:

Thank you for the heads up on the article. I too, prefer hardcopies. The printed word is becoming extinct. Kind of you to share.

To the second poster: No need to call him grandpa and berate him for not including the link. Get a life loser.

Get your facts straight. The internet runs on green gases. Trees are replenish-able. Hard copies don't can be read anytime with no need for electricity.

Does not look like Merck's sleep drug has any advantage over Ambien.

I think you are right there. Merck's drug looks like an expensive me-too, and Ambien addressed the fact it does not keep you asleep with the CR version or the 4 hour patch pill ( can't remember name) they came out with. Plus Ambien is dirt cheap now. I cannot see how this would be an advantage.

Hard copies are soo last century. The cost associated with production and delivery of the periodical uses up a lot more energy than using a computer. Plus, the facts are, their website has a new invention called advertising, which more than makes up for loss of monthly subscription premiums. The facts are the facts. It takes 30 years for a tree to be replenished, and a lot longer for the big trees to be replenished. I guess they don't have trees where you come from.

trees are renewable producing seeds every year.
Paper is recyclable - do you recycle anything??

It was MY generation who cared enough about the Environment way back when to get the whole recycle - preserve - renew movement underway.
Anybody remember when Earth Day is celebrated?

All the rare earth elements that are required for all of your computers and hand held, mobile technology - what are YOU doing about the depletion of THOSE resources?
Do you even care?

So a hard copy of a magazine is read by 3 or more people and then recycled - vs all the trashed computers, laptops, ipads, cell phones etc; trashed because you all have to have the latest and greatest upgrades every year.....

I'll take my magazine delivered, passed along and recycled -
