The Lilly Values: Integrity, respect for people and excellence. What does this mean?

Re: The Lilly Values: Integrity, respect for people and excellence. What does this me

I used to believe in these 3 company values wholeheartedly prior to April 10th of this year. Now I can't find them anywhere in Lilly and I am consistently and newly reminded each day of how none of these values exist for any of us anymore. They probably haven't for awhile and I chose to naively ignore that fact for too long. One thing for sure is that they will never exist for us again. Sad to see the death of what was once a great corporate culture that we all built together and one that made this a fun place to work.

I left Lilly because of all their BS patients come first, seriously what hypocrites the only answers that matter are Lechlieter, Azar and Ricks paycheck .

sad, sad days...the company is decimated. the survivors will do double the work with twice the pressure.

Let's face the truth the survivors will work harder managers will be meaner to push the reps to make them look good and the company will try to succeed on crummy products that can't and won't get it done. What is management thinking, another layoff for certain.

Alan Clark left in 1998 after only six years in Lilly USA. Pharmacists as sales reps were in serious decline before he ever set foot in Indianapolis. Get your facts straight!

When Alan Clark entered the scene, pharmacists comprised 70% of the sales force and reps with science backgrounds comprised 15%. No need to be a revisionist!

The seeds of destruction began in the early 1990's with the appointment of a new CEO a president and vice president of the pharmaceutical division. The decision was made to change the Lilly culture. And changed they did!
The first change was to eliminate pharmacists as sales reps. Why? Because in their view they had become too technical. The next vital change was to change sales marketing and promotion. Integrity and professionalism be dammed. Forget about questionable and unethical sales promotions. Our lawyers will respond to any FDA marketing questions.
The next decision was to enter the "arms" race and create multiple sales divisions with the logical reasoning that sales would be doubled or tripled if 2-3 Lilly sales reps called on the same physicians.
Next came the era of the "talking heads". The sales force was expected to memorize and present a verbatim sales promotion. If a physicain interupted the rep, the sales rep was lost. And the saga goes on and on.
Lilly reaped what it sowed. A 1.5 billion $ fine from the government for unethical promotions.
It is sad to experience the rise and fall of a great company.

Amen. The "Titanic" sailed form Lilly's port in the early 90"s with the captain absent from the bridge and helm paying no attention to potential hazards en route. Damn any hazards, full speed ahead. Lets worry about today and not the future.

Will be interesting to see how they try to motivate the reps when they travel to Phoenix. What a joke.

Re: The Lilly Values: Integrity, respect for people and excellence. What does this me

I hate this stupid company.

This is the most accurate thing I have read. The once great Lilly has fallen and fallen hard. No respect for people with the way any of this was handled. The severence is a joke. The way open positions were filled is bordering on illegal and discriminatory, with managers making deals and even area directors putting on the pressure....disgusting. The really good people will continue to look outside and when they leave(and they will leave) this company will be more of a joke that it already is, Scientists will leave for greener pastures where they can be supported to actually discover new medications and sales reps who actually want to "sell" will find more challenging positions outside. The company will be ripe for a takeover.

I never would have thought that Lilly would be doing the things that are described here...but I saw it. It's disappointing to realize that you really were drinking Kool-Aid. I've heard people say when they leave how different they feel...many have said Lilly makes you feel like you are no one without them....they scare people into thinking no company is as good as them....very sad....look at how they are structuring and what they have in product to offer....very sad....open your eyes before too late...I have heard the next reallocations will not be as generous

Feel betrayed. My DM acted like I should give away my first child to stay at Lilly. A company with no loyalty deserves no loyalty.

It's tough to keep the culture "fun" when the company is going belly up...or do you still have your head in the sand? Wake up.
