The DEI layoff

Not looking for any replies on this thread. I just want to say I am truly disgusted at how many AA were laid off. In the words of my 5 year old, something smells very fishy. I am hurt for everyone that was laid off, but again the amount of AA that was laid off does not make sense.

That’s unfortunate. I actually didn’t notice any AA’s affected on my end. I’d be interested in what area you worked

Please explain why it doesnt make sense. Does last hired, first fired not ring true? That quote didnt just come out of nowhere

I'm in the field. Through conversation I know of 9 African Americans who were laid off and I know of 4 that remain. So we can say approximately 70-75% of AA were laid off in the field. Do you think the lay off as a whole was 70-75% yesterday?

Diversity hires are frequently protected. Companies typically go to great lengths to make sure people can’t accuse them of targeting certain groups for elimination. This leads to highly qualified, long tenured employees sometimes getting caught up in “the wash” during layoffs.

I suspect the OP is seeing just a small sample size and jumping to conclusions.

Is there a difference between minority employees and “high qualified long tenured” employees? Because i know plenty of minority colleagues who are highly qualified. They are not mutually exclusive.

Yep this is a good take. Companies go over the top to keep the DEI employees in place nowadays. No one has the axe out for diversity hires. To even question this is laughable and not serious.

This can also be tactic to preemptively make this broad claim, whether it is at all partially true or not, to protect their personal own demographic group (and thus themselves) from the next future round of cuts. Survival tactics. Bet we’ll see this claim be made on a new Glassdoor or indeed review next

do you think any black Latino or Asian employee is a “diversity employee”

They are indeed not necessarily mutually exclusive.

What I was referring to is If someone with lower performance reviews and ability is not laid off specifically because of being part of a protected class and someone with higher reviews and ability is terminated in their place. I have anecdotal evidence from prior managers that they couldn’t layoff certain employees due to quotas. Who knows if that is true.

it is utter speculation to assume the degree to which this occurs. However it would make sense if the company is looking to avoid DEI lawsuits.

There are plenty of jobs to go around, so not the end of the world either way.

Protecting the AA employee is just plain stupid and bad business.

Quotas are illegal and have been for decades. People spread this false narrative and it is hurtful to both AA employees who earn their positions, as well as hurtful to others who think they are being slighted when they aren't. Interestingly that same group likes to accuse others of 'victim mentalities' but that's another issue altogether.

First rodeo princess?

Bless your heart. If quotas were in place, the impacts would probably look different. First time being able to observe actual data and synthesize it into a fact-based statement? Or shall we just continue to make wildly inaccurate statements based on nothing more than our own bias?

To the person who posted the names of actual human beings who just lost their jobs, you should be ashamed. I hope that if you ever find yourself in this position, someone will extend more kindness to you than you have to your former colleagues, regardless of what they think of you.
