Tethys Bioscience

This company just laid off 90% of their sales force in Feb and gave them all two weeks' severance - regardless of how long they worked at the company. Unethical, clueless management and it is only a matter of time until the illegal stuff is found out and the company goes out of business.

You definitely can succeed without lab contracts. You may want one of the national labs on your side, but not both. You lose all price control and patients will start recieving bills for hundreds of dollars and guess what, the doc will quit using the testing immediately.

Agreed - you can succeed without lab contracts. In fact lab contracts are useless without reimbursement. I think Tethys is trying to follow the Genomic Health model. It's a long haul.

Called by recruiter and curious if any one has an update on these guys. I read the previous threads about issues, burning through cash, poor management, test not well received by drs, but curious if they have overcome these issues? Salary looks good, but concerned about the past??

not doing well, company has <12 months - sales declining, medicare coverage decision on test was denied. Test has questionable utility.
Take the job only if you can tolerate the risk of being laid-off (w/o severance) in as little as 3 months after hire.

The company has its ups and downs. Great pay but the place has been under poor management since late 2010? I recently resigned and lasted there for 5+ years. The retention rate is horrible and if you ever decide to accept a job offer there, be prepared to work with a bunch of overpaid incompetent people. But thats just my opinion. Sales rep - you will definitely be up for a challenge. Great base pay and many other perks comes along with the benefits.

And I always wondered how they were so successful with the excess spending on junk yet still get funded with millions. Tethys isn't a good place to be with long term if you're currently seeking job stability. Also, management has a good habit of delegating their responsibilities to other overpaid 3rd party consultants to get their work done for them. And when something goes wrong, they will find the most disliked individual there and put the blame on that person. PreDx sells but who knows for how much longer.

I'm very interested to learn who this anonymous person is. And for the record, the entire sales team was not laid off back in 2011. Someone has exaggerated the numbers.

Is Tethys still in business? A few weeks ago I received a bill for almost $500 stating that they are an in-network provider to my insurance company and I am obligated to pay the amount applied to my 2013 annual deductible. I think this sounds fishy since the test was done over a year ago! The bill was sent along with a cover letter explaining this. There were several spelling errors in the letter and the reasoning for why I should pay this astronomical amount is crazy. I googled the Tethys and can not find a valid website. Their website links to another biotech site on the east coast. weird.

Anonymous - Same thing happened to me... received a bill 9+ months after service (when they had an agreement with my doctor's office to accept insurance payments as payment in full and not bill patients any remaining balance), except my bill did not have a cover letter with it.

The number on the bill is out-of-service. I sent a fax saying I disputed the bill but could not reach them by phone and asked them to call me. I did get a call back six days later from someone named Cathy (she left me a voicemail). She said that to speak with someone about my bill I should call 209-229-7975 (notice it's not a toll-free number). Today I called without identifying myself - a lady answered the phone with "hello." I said "I'm sorry; I may have the wrong number... who is this?" She said "this is Tethys BioScience." Seemed very fishy to me. I told her I'd heard they'd gone out-of-business and asked if that was incorrect. She said the labs are no longer taking samples but the billing office it still functioning. I thanked her and hung up... I will definitely be investigating more; I think this is a scam of some sort.

I'm so glad I decided to research after also receiving a bill for close to $500 from Tethys for labs that were performed 1 1/2 years ago (no cover letter). After reading initial write ups about the company shutting down in November of 2013, I assumed another company purchased their presumed receivables. After reading the previous two posts, it occurred to me if that were true the owner of the receivables would identify themselves as such. This seems like a last ditch effort by the principles of a company that no longer exists. I will consult my attorney about this one.

Any updates on the bills? I just got one for $159 from a test done 12/31/12. Really hesitant to pay after reading all of this. I got a cover letter with a scanned signature by Demetria Wyatt titled as the CFO. The cover letter is rudely written in an accusing manner considering this is the first I've heard about this bill and my insurance shows the claim as complete.

I still haven't paid mine though "Tethys" is sending me a bill monthly... trying to work with the doctor's office that ordered the labs to begin with. What phone number was on your bill?

She seriously signed as the CFO?!? I googled her name and LinkedIn shows her as "Manager, Billing Operations at Tethys Bioscience, Inc."

Everything about this just feels wrong to me. :-/

The number on mine is (209)229-7975. I saw that on her title on LinkedIn as well as her FB profile that says "Manager at Tethys Bioscience and Independent Distributor at Avon". I called my doctor's office who ordered the test and they said the haven't had a relationship with them in a while. They told me several people called them about bills appearing well over a year from the visit with similar language. They advised me to call my insurance company but said they would not pay as it seems off. My guess is this is some last ditch effort to collect any money by whoever picked up their billing after they went under/were sold. The letter they sent me seemed to come from a very poor printer and on cheap paper unlike any actual bills I receive. Her title being CFO on here seems like a shady way to make this seem more legit. So far I have only received this 1 bill which is a year and 7 months from when I had my doctor's visit. This seems very wrong, but end of day I don't want to get some collections notice due to how unofficial and strange this situation is.

Am so glad to find this website because we have had the same issues. We have been receiving bills nearly every month as well. Received one yesterday for over $500 for services July 2013. After talking to the Office Manager at our doctors office we were told that they had a contract with this company that stated that Tethys would write off any amount that our insurance company did not pay. She said that this was nothing more than some of the share holders making a last ditch effort to get some of there investment back. I have no intention of paying this bill and am considering a lawsuit for there continued harassment.

I, too, received a bill from Tethy's about a test done about a year ago. I'm really glad I did some googling on the topic before I did anything else.

Same names and phone number as everybody here is stating. there's definitely something odd about this.

I'll be speaking with my insurance company to see what I can do about it.

Has someone contacted an attorney. This is illegal.
I researched and even Tethys company when it was functioning had illegal practices in past to sell their tests to Doctors.

And now it appears someone is just trying to scam patients and give it a shot to grab some money. this is harassment and may be we can file a lawsuit against this Demetria Wyatt who seems to be driving this/

I too have been harrassed for the last 5 months for a bill from Jan 2013 and my doctor had a contract with them to write off the remainder of what my insurance didn't pay. I'm curious why there isn't there more on the internet about this scam? Who can we call? Our states attorney general or someone? The lady signing as the CFO was merely a member of the billing department before, they use Stamps.com for their mailing, the image for the logo is a poorly done .jpg, the cover letter is rude, with grammatical errors, and not consistent with how a doctors office would request payment. The quoted reason for the payment due doesn't even exist. I want them to stop sending bills as I won't be paying them anyhow. Anyone had any success or do they just stop eventually?

I am glad that I found this post. Yesterday I received a cover letter for an outstanding bill from December 2012 in the amount of $100.29 for a PreDx test, out of network, that I was not aware I even had done. The letter stated that due to an audit, it was revealed they had previously missed sending me a bill, and went on in the attempt to shame me into paying it, stating the vast majority of Florida residents that were affected by their late billing error have responded positively and have reimbursed Tethys for the amounts due. The letter is signed by Demetria Wyatt, Chief Financial Officer, on scanned letterhead. The invoice goes on to request my credit card information. I am definitely not paying anything to whomever these individuals are, contacting my doctors office and reporting them to the State of Florida for the unethical and apparently fraudulent request.
